The bearer of glad tidings

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

96.  Then, when the bearer of glad tidings came, he laid it on his face and he became a seer once more. He said: Said I not unto you that I know from Allah that which ye know not?

97.  They said: O our father! Ask forgiveness of our sins for us, for lo! We were sinful.

98.  He said: I shall ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

Commentary

These people had not reached so far, that wave of pleasure ran over in the heart of Jacob (peace be upon him) spontaneously. The person, who brought the glad tidings, laid the shirt of Joseph on His eyes. As soon as he laid the shirt on His face, He became a seer once again. He (peace be upon him) thanked God Almighty and reminded to His sons: In the same manner; the works are completed by the Mercy of Allah Almighty. Did I not say you that you can never think about those matters which have been coming in my heart? They said: We are sinful. Please ask forgiveness of our sins. He {Jacob (peace be upon him)} said: All right! I shall ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. He is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful.
