God purifies and sanctifies, to whom He desires (L-552)
|
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُزَكُّونَ أَنفُسَهُم بَلِ ٱللَّهُ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا 49. ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ يَفْتَرُونَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦٓ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا 50. |

49. ‘Alam tara ‘ilallaziina yu-zakkuuna ‘anfusahum. Balillaahu yuzakkii many-yashaaa-‘u wa laa yuzlamuuna fatiilaa. 50.
‘Unzur kayfa yaftaruuna ‘alAllaahil- kazib. Wa
kafaa bihii ‘ismam-mubiinaa. (Section 7/4) |

49. Have you not considered those who claim purity for themselves? Rather, God purifies whom He wills, and they will not be wronged a whit. 50.
See how they devise lies against God . That alone is an outright sin. |
In this verse, God has addressed to His last Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ); “Have you not seen those Children of Israel who have involved themselves in the badness like polytheism? They disobey the commandments of God, make alteration in His Scripture, used to slay the Prophets (Peace be upon them) unlawfully, falsify the glad tidings and good news concerning the last Messenger, (ﷺ) and notwithstanding; these entire badnesses, they claim that they are pure and innocent? It is completely nonsensical thing.
In fact, God purifies and sanctifies, to whom He desires. Nothing may be by saying someone else. They will not be tyrannized even equal to a particle, who brag falsely and claim wrongfully. But they will be entangled in the torment of God due to own evils and wicked deeds.
It has been described about the reason of revelation of this verse that the Children of Israel, who used to worship the calf and say that Prophet Ezra (Peace be upon him) was son of God , when they heard this verse of Holy Qur’an, “ ‘InnAllaaha laa yag-firu ‘any-yushraka”, they began to say, “We are not idolaters, but pure servants of God and Children of the Prophet. Prophet-hood is our hereditary. This verse was revealed upon such occasion.
God commanded, “How is it wonderful that these people calumniate God in different false manners and although they have involved themselves in the infidelity, and ascribe plurality to Him, even then they relate themselves as God’s friends and are claimants as chosen by Him.
No doubt that the Children of Israel were descendants of the
Prophets (Peace be upon them). High in dignity Prophets (Peace be upon them)
used to come from them. Even that the prophet-hood remained limited into their
lineage. In this regard, verily these people were beloved of God earlier, but
when they turned from the obedience of God and His Messenger (ﷺ), forgot the Day
of Resurrection by following the covetousness and lust, then their
agreeableness came to an end. Therefore, God commands, “They shall be punished
because they forge lies against God, while they have fallen into the
polytheism”.
