Quran Chapter 15  65 & 66 (Pt-14, Stg-3) (L-1677) درس قرآن

Go whither you are commanded!

Surah ‘Al-Hijr - (The Rocky Tract) - 15

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

65,  So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs; and let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded.

66.  And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn.
65.  Fa-‘asri  bi-‘ahlika  bi-qit-‘im-minal-layli  wattabi’  ‘adbaarahum  wa  laa  yaltafit  minkum  ‘ahadunw-wamzuu  haysu  tu’-maruun.

66.  Wa  qazay-Naaa  ‘ilayhi  zaa-likal-  ‘amra  ‘anna  daabira  haaa-‘ulaaa-‘i  maqtuu-‘um-musbihiin.

Commentary

‘Adbaara – (behind the backs), this word is plural of dubur, which means “entire part of body’s back, that is to say; with effect from the back side of the neck to the heel is called dubur. From the same, a word daabir has already passed which is used for the lower portion i.e. root.

Musbihiina – (at early in the morning), it is the subject; which has been derived from the word ‘is-baahun. Its origin is Sa-ba-ha. Subah is a famous word which means “morning, dawn”. ‘Isbaahun means “early morning, when the time enters into morning”. Musbih means “that; who waits till morning. It aims: when the people will be entering into the morning.

The Angels said to Prophet Lot (peace be upon them): We have been descended by the Command of Allah Almighty for destroying this folk. You are directed that you should dispatch the members of your family in the last portion of the night and follow; looking them at their backs. All of you should be careful that none of you should turn round. Go away straight; whither you are commanded. Allah Almighty has decided in this matter that this unfortunate folk would be removed from the surface of the earth early in the morning and the root of entire wrongdoers would be cut.

When Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) listened to this, He traveled out from that township along with His family in a portion of the night.

 وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ 64

61.  So when the Messengers came unto the family of Lot-

62.  He said: Lo! Ye are folk unknown (to me).

63.  They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing.

64.  And we bring thee the Truth, and lo! We are truth-tellers.

64.  Wa  ‘atay-naaka  bil-Haqqi  wa  ‘innaa  lasaadi-quun.

Commentary

Munkaruun – (unknown people, foreigners, strangers), this word is plural of munkar, which has been used earlier several times. It is opposite to known, notorious. Munkar is the person, from whom; people are unacquainted.

Yamta-ruun – (they keep disputing, have a doubt), origin of this word is ‘imti-raa-‘un, which has been made from ma-ra-yaMir-yatun means “a dispute, any doubt by which; the dispute is produced”.

During the times of ancient Prophets (peace be upon them), the Angels (peace be upon them) used to come down for punishing the guilty people. Attributes of Angels remain into them although they are in the forms of mankind.

When these Angels came unto Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) and although they were very beautiful, even then; Lot also spoke at once like Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him): You seem some strange people. Saying by Lot so, there may be any other reason too i.e. people of His folk used to molest very badly to such people who used to come from abroad. The people, inhabitants of their neighboring territory, were aware of them and they used to ignore coming unto this folk.

Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) was anxious that if the people of His folk came to trouble the guests (Angels), then He would be grieved double. Answering to all problems of Lot, the Angels said: You should not be confused. We are Angels of Doom and we have come to punish them with the same torment, in which they did not believe, whereas you had informed them clearly. And that is true which we are saying.

57.  He said: What is your business, O ye messengers (of Allah)?

58.  They said: We have been sent unto a guilty folk-

60.  ‘Illamra-‘atahuu  qaddar-naaa,  ‘innahaa  la-minal-  gaabiriin.

(Section 4)

Commentary

Gaabiriin – (they stayed behind), it is the subject from ga-ba-ra. Gabar means “to leave the company of”. Gaabir means “the person who becomes separate from his colleague”.

Abraham (peace be upon him) asked from the Angels (peace be upon them): What will you do now? They answered: Now we shall go unto the folk of Lot (peace be upon him). Those people have been involved in a very bad habit and do not obey their Prophet Lot (peace be upon him). We are going to ruin them.

But we shall save Lot (peace be upon him) and his entire family members except his wife, because she will not be able to escape, and about her; Allah Almighty has caused to hear us His final decision that she should be of those who stay behind and be ruined along with other people of the folk. Due to this reason, it is our decision also that she should be ruined too. Hearing this, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) was silent.

54.  He said: Bring ye me good tidings (of a son) when old age hath overtaken me? Of What then can ye bring good tidings?

55.  They said: We bring thee good tidings in truth; so be not thou of the despairing.

56.  He said: And who despaireth of the Mercy of his Lord save those who are astray?

56.  Qaala  wa  many-yaqnatu  mir-Rahmati  Rabbihiii  ‘illaz-zaaal-luun.

Commentary

If expectation of any such good tidings, (which may not be impossible), does not have a person and it is caused to hear him, and he is sure, even then he asks about it again and again and desires that the person, who has brought the good tidings, should continue to tell about its detail, so that happiness of his heart should overcome continuously. The same condition was of Abraham (peace be upon him) after hearing the good tidings (of a son) and whatever He discussed with the Angels (peace be upon them), when He knew that they were Angels (peace be upon them) and brought for Him good tidings. Then after observing own condition, He was surprised with happiness and worried. He (peace be upon him) asked: Would it will be really so? Can the children be born at the homes of old people? Have you considered thoughtfully about this good news? The Angels (peace be upon them) knew these perceptions and said: Really, this good tidings is true and that shall be whatever we have been saying. We find reflection of hopelessness in your words. Remove it and believe in the Mercy of Allah Almighty. When Abraham (peace be upon him) heard these words, He was startled, and said: No, not at all! I am not hopeless from the Mercy of Allah Almighty. Only those people despair from it who are astray, who do not believe in Allah Almighty. I have complete belief and trust in my Lord Who is the most Merciful.

Angels came in unto Abraham

Surah ‘Al-Hijr - (The Rocky Tract) - 15

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ 52

 قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ 53

52.  (How) when they came in unto him, and said: Peace. He said: Lo! We are afraid of you.

53.  They said: Be not afraid! Lo! We bring thee good tidings of a boy possessing wisdom.
52.  ‘Iz  dakhaluu  ‘alayhi  faqaaluu  Salaamaa.  Qaala  ‘innaa  minkum  wajiluun.

53.  Qaaluu  laa  tawjal  ‘innaa  nubash-shiruka  bi-gulaamin  ‘aliim.

Commentary

Wajila and laa  tawjal – (“one who is afraid” and “Be not afraid!”), origin of both words is wajala. Wajlun means “fear and to be afraid”. Wajilun is an adjective from it. Laa  tawjal is a negative from the same, which means “Be not afraid”. Wajiluun is plural of wajilun.

It is commanded: When the guests reached the house of Abraham (peace be upon him) and met Him, then before conversation, according to the religion of Abraham; which was Islam, they said: Salaam! (Peace). And He (peace be upon him) replied them: Peace! (Which has been mentioned in Surah Huud). From this word “Peace” and its reply “Peace”, it seems that at the time of meeting with one another, saying “Salaam” (Peace) only is sufficient to the person who says “Salaam” (Peace) as Salaam ‘alaykum or ‘As-Salaamu ‘alaykum (Peace with you) is complete form of saying Peace to any other. And the word “Wa ‘alaykumus-Salaam” is its reply. However answer can be the same word as “Salaam” (Peace) only.

At first, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) was pleased to meet them, but when afterwards, He (peace be upon him) observed them minutely, then hidden rage influenced on His heart and it came out by His tongue: We are afraid of you. The Angels (peace be upon them) said: You should observe the side of good tidings because that is for You, and be not afraid of the side of hidden rage. We have come unto You for giving good tidings only that a very wise son of you will be born from your wife Saarah. Hearing this, fear from His (peace be upon him) heart was finished.

 وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ 50

 وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ 51

49.  Announce, (O Muhammad) unto My slaves that verily I am the Forgiving, the Merciful-

50.  And that My Doom is the dolorous Doom.

51.  And tell them of Abraham’s guests.
49.  Nabbi’  ‘ibaaDiii  ‘Anniii  ‘Anal-Gafuurur-Rahiim.

50.  Wa  ‘anna  .AzaaBii  huwal- ‘Azaabul-‘aliim.

51.  Wa  nabbi’-hum  ‘an-  zayfi  ‘Ibraa-hiim.

Commentary

Nabbi’ – (Announce! and Tell!), it is a word of command from tambi-‘atun, origin of which is n-b-‘. Nabaa-‘un means “the news”. Tambi-‘atun means “to inform”.

In the verses of this lesson, it has been commanded to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): Draw attention of the people unto Mercy and Doom (both Attributes) of Allah Almighty; by causing to hear them the news of Adam (peace be upon him) and Iblis (the outcast), and tell them! You beheld that Mercy of Allah Almighty can make any worthless thing of a great dignity, and His Rage can cause to fall down the thing of any great degree within a moment. He can forgive sins of His slaves if He will and make them rich with His Mercy. But if He will, can punish them severely due to their guilt. There is none Merciful save Him and even there is none who have power to punish save Him.

If these people wish to behold the Glory of God’s Mercy and pomp of His Doom clearly in the world, then you {O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)} should cause to hear them the story of the guests of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), who were, in fact, Angels (peace be upon them). They (the Angels) showed, on one side, rare pattern of God’s Mercy by informing Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) about a good news (of son), and on the other side, they produced a picture of God’s enormous Rage by destroying the folk of Lot (peace be upon him).

45.  Lo! Those who ward off (evil) are among gardens and water-springs.

46.  (And it is said unto them): Enter them in peace, secure.

47.  And We remove whatever rancour may be in their hearts; as brethren, face to face, (they rest) on couches raised.

48.  Laa  yamassu-hum  fiihaa  nasabunw-wa  maa  hum-minhaa  bi-mukh-rajiin.

Commentary

naza’-Naa – (We removed), it is in past tense from na-za’, which means “to remove, to draw, to pull”.

Gillun – (rancor, enmity, malignity, deep seated hate).

Sururin – (raised couches, thrones), this word is plural of sariir, which means “a raised thing for sitting, a throne etc.”

Nasabun – (toil, labor with fatigue, restlessness, uneasiness), such thing which is cause of any burden for a mankind.

For dwelling after death of the abstinent and those who fear God Almighty, there will be verdant fruit bearing Gardens, underneath which tasteful water-springs will be flowing. Angels (peace be upon them) will welcome them in these words: Enter the Gardens and dwell for ever in peace and secure.

Allah Almighty says: We shall remove whatever rancor, hatred or enmity may be in their hearts, and they will be sitting face to face like frank brothers on the thrones of large cushions and raised coaches. Neither will they feel there any trouble and nor will they be expelled from thence.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

42.  Lo! As for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee.

43.  And lo! For all such, Hell will be the promised place-

44.  It hath seven gates to each of these gates is an appointed portion of them.
42.  ‘Inna  ‘ibaaDii  laysa  laka  ‘alayhim  sultaanun  ‘illaa  manit-taba-‘aka  minal-gaawiin.

44.  Lahaa  sab-‘atu  ‘Abwaab.  Li-kulli  Baabim-minhum  juz-‘um-maqsuum.
(Part 3)

Commentary

Sultaanun – (power, control), origin of this word is sa-la-ta, which means “superiority, prevalence, overcoming etc. or such thing by which, one gets the upper hand” for example “a written order of the government, a warrant, a license” etc.

It is commanded: the persons, who are My sincere and genuine slaves, over them; you will have no power. However, you will find such people who will follow you after looking your juggleries and tricks. When they will see jesters, those will be seemed to them good and they will be drowned in looking them, and in which side those will be more in numbers, they will turn to that direction. They already were not fond of the Straight Path. So then, their feet too will turn away from it. At last this game will be deteriorated on a Day and you all will be seen going unto the Hell. Then according to your favorite culpable engagements in the world, you will be distributed in different groups. And for every group, one separate gate of the Hell out of seven gates will be specified, and every group will be thrown into the Hell from its own specified gate, for instance; gate of idolaters, gate of rebellious and purse-proud people, gate of thieves and fraudulent people, gate of robbers and killers, gate of sensualists and fornicators etc.
