Family Life

SAYINGS OF THE MESSENGER (130 TO 152)
(SALLALLAHO-ALAIHE-WA-AALEHI-WASALLAM)
Family Life
Behaviour with parents
130.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Children can never repay their father until they find their father enslaved and buy him and set him free. (Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmizi, Targheeb)
131.       Sayyidina Abu ‘Umaamah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Your parents may mean Paradiser for you (if you behave well with them) or Hell too (if you disobey them) (Ibn Majah, Targheeb)
132.       Sayyidina Anas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
He who craves for a long life and abundance of provision must behave kindly with his parents and maintain ties with them. (Ahmad, Targheeb)
133.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Adopt modesty with the women of other men, your women will remain virtuous and adopt pious conduct with your parents, and your children will behave well with you. (Haakim, Targheeb)
134.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
He rubs his nose in dust. Rubs his nose in dust, rubs his nose in dust. (He was asked, “Who, O Messenger of Allah?” He said), “The person who had aged parents yet could not make his way to Paradise.   (Muslim, Targheeb)
135.       Sayyidina Mu’awiyah bin Jahimah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Stay with your mother, for Paradise is under her feet. (Ibn Majah, Nasa’i, Targheeb)

136.       Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
There are three people towards whom Allah will not look at all (with mercy):
1.   One who disobeys his parents.
2.   One who is addicted to wine, and
3.   One who boasts of his favours.  (Nasa’i, Bazzaar, Targheeb)

Husband and Wife
137.       Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ood (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
O young people! Those of you who are able to do it must marry because this is the best way to keep your gaze down. In this way you can better check your sexual desires. As for him who cannot afford to marry, he must observe fasting frequently because fasting is a means to curb sexual desires.   (Bukhari, Muslim, Targheeb)
138.       Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The word is a treasure and the best of its treasures is a pious woman.  (Nasa’i, Muslim, Targheeb)
139.       Sayyidina Abu Umaamah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Next to Taqwaa (God-fearing attitude), there is nothing better for a believing man than a pious wife. She is one who obeys her husband in every command he gives. When he looks towards her, she pleases him. And, if he swears by her (saying that she would do as he says, surely) then she does not let him down. When her husband is absent she is extremely careful about his property and her own self. (Ibn Majah, Targheeb)
140.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
There are three men who have assurance of Allah’s help:
1.   One who wages Jihad for the sake of Allah.
2.   Makaatib (a slave whose master will release him if he pays a specified sum of money) who intends to pay the money.
3.   One who marries to keep himself away from indecency. (Tirmizi, Targheeb)

141.       Sayyidina Abu Sa’eed Khudri (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
A Woman is married for one of the four reasons:
(1)  Her beauty, (2) her wealth, (3) her good character, or (4) her piety.
Choose a woman who is pious and well be-haved (Ahmad, Targheeb)

Relation with Wife
142.       Sayyidina Maymoon from Sayyidina Ubayy (Radi-ALLAHO-An-hum)
If anyone marries a woman agreeing to pay a dower, little or much, but not really intending to pay it to her then he has cheated her. If he dies afterwards without paying her the dower then he will face Allah on the day of Resurrection as an adulterer.    (Targheeb)
143.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)    Among the believers, those who have a good character have perfected their belief. And the best among you are those who are good to their women.    (Tirmizi,Targheeb)

144.                     Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Let not a believing man hate his believing wife. If he does not like anything in her, he is sure to find something else adorable. (Muslim, Targheeb)

145      Sayyidina mu`awiyah bin Haydah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
A wife’s right over her husband is that he feeds her when he feeds himself, clothes her when he clothes himself; does not hit her on her face and does not speak to her rudely; and does not spend the night away from her (out of ranger) except within the same house. (Abu Dawood, Targheeb)

146.    Sayyidina ‘Amr bin al-Ahwas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Listen! Follow my advice in treating women gently. This is because they stay with you restricted. You have no right over anything belonging to them except that they do not do anything shameful. In that case you leave them alone on their bed and beat them lightly so that they do not feel the pain. Then if they obey you do not oppress them. Remember, you have some rights over your wives, and your wives have some rights over you. It is your right over them that they do not defile your bed with those you do not like, and do not let such people as you do not like enter your house. Remember, they have a right over you that you treat them well in feeding and clothing them. (Ibn Majah, Tirmizi)

147. Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
This is a dinar that you spend in the cause of Allah. That is a dinar that you again use to emancipate a slave. And, this is also a dinar that you give as Sadaqah to a needy person. This too is a dinar which you spend on your wife. Of these, you will fetch the highest reward on the dinar that you spend on your wife. (Muslim, Targheeb)
148.       Sayyidah ‘Aisha (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ha)
Does that man among you not feel ashamed that he beats his wife in the early part of the day as if he is beating his slave then in the last part of that very day he sleeps with her (having sexual intercourse)? Is he not ashamed of himself? (Abd bin Humayd, Kanz ul-‘Ummaal)
149.       Sayyidina Abu Umaamah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The worst of men is he who is stingy in giving the rights of his household members.    (Kanz ul-‘Ummaal)

150.       Sayyidina Ilyas bin ‘Abdullah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Many women make the rounds of the house of Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon Him). They complain (of being beating at the hands) of their husbands. Such people (who beat their wives) are not the best among you. (Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah, Mishkat)
151.       Sayyidina Asma bint Abu Bakr (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ha)
I do not like it that I should see anyone with swollen veins of his neck, standing over his wife and beating her.    (Kanz ul-‘Ummaal, Asd bin Humayd)

152.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
As for him who has two wives and does not do justice to them, he will be seen on the day of Resurrection with one side of his body leaning down.    (Tirmizi, Abu Dawood, Nasa’i)

116.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
It is much better for one of you to pick up wood on his back and earn his livelihood by selling it than to beg money from another. Some may give and some may not. (Malik, Muslim, Bukhari, Targheeb)

120.       Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Pay the labourer his wages before his perspiration dries. (Ibn Majah, Targheeb)

121.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Allah Ta’ala has said, “There are three men against whom I will take a stand and he whom I oppose, I shall give him (a crushing) defeat. One of them is a man who gave assurance in My name but then was faithless; the other, a man who sold a free man and enjoyed the price he received for him; and the third, one who hired someone on wages but did not pay him his wages after getting him to do what he was hired to do.” (Bukhari, Ibn Majah, Targheeb)
SAYINGS OF THE MESSENGER (122 TO 129)
(SALLALLAHO-ALAIHE-WA-AALEHI-WASALLAM)
Debts and Repayments
122.       Sayyidina ‘Adullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Keep your sins in check; death will come easily. Let your debts be limited; you will spend your life in comfort. (Bukhari, Targheeb)

123.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone borrows from another intending to repay then Allah makes circumstances ideal for him to repay. But, if anyone borrows to waste the others money then Allah wastes the man himself. (Bukhari, Ibn Majah, Targheeb)

124.       Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone agrees to pay a specified dower to a woman and he marries not really intending to pay it to her then he is committing fornication. If anyone borrows money from another not intending to repay then he is a thief. (Bazzaar, Targheeb)

125.       Sayyidina Muhammad bin ‘Abdullah bin Jahsh (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if a man were to be killed in the path of Allah (in Jihad) then come to life, be killed again in His Path then come to life, be killed again in the path of Allah but have a debt over him then he will not go to Paradise until his debt is paid. (Nasa’i, Targheeb)

126.       Sayyidina ‘Adullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone dies while he owes someone one dinar or one dirham then that will be paid from his pious deeds (that is, the creditors will be paid the debtor’s pious deeds) because dinar and dirham will not be (in circulation) there. (Ibn Majah, Targheeb)

127.       Sayyidina Abu Qataadah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)

HAJJ AND ‘UMRAH

SAYINGS OF THE MESSENGER OF THE CREATOR (62 TO 69)
(SALLALLAHO-ALAIHE-WA-AALEHI-WASALLAM)
FIFTH PILLAR OF ISLAM
HAJJ AND ‘UMRAH
62.  Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
When someone performs Hajj and during the performance does not do anything indecent or anything sinful then, he returns so (purified and absolved) of his sins as on the day his mother gave him birth. (Tabarani, Targheeb)
63.  Sayyidina Abdullah bin Mas’ood (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah in succession because they remove poverty and sins as a blacksmith’s bellows remove impurities from iron, gold and silver. As for the Hajj that is accepted, the reward is nothing less than Paradise.   (Tirmizi, Targheeb)

64.  Sayyidina Ibn ‘Abbas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Try to discharge the (obligation of) Hajj as early as possible because none of you knows what is going to happen. (Abul Qasim Isbahani, Targheeb)
65.  Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Allah points out to the creatures of heaven (the Angels) the people of Arafah (the pil;grims) as a pride creation saying: “Look at My slaves! How disheveled and with unkempt hair they have come to Me.”  (Ahmad, Targheeb)
66.  Sayyidina Abu Umaamah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
He who dies without performing Hajj although he was not stopped from performing it by an obvious helplessness, an oppressive king, or a severe illness then he may die as a Jew if he wishes or as a Christian if he wishes (it is the same with Allah) (Tirmizi, Mishkat)
67.  Sayyidina Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone observes the Tawaaf (circumambulation of the House of Allah) and then offers two Raka’at prayer, whatever number of steps he has taken, against each step one of his sins is forgiven, one act of piety is recorded in his Record of Deeds and his rank is elevated by one degree. (Ibn Khazeemah, Targheeb)
68.  Sayyidina Talha bin ‘Ubaydullah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The devil is not seen more debased, let down, ignominious and angry as on the day of Arafah. The reason being is that he sees on that day the Mercy of Allah descending and the great sins of men being forgiven.  (Maalik, Targheeb)
69.  Sayyidina Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Every day Allah spreads a hundred and twenty portions of His Mercy on the pilgrims of Bayt ul-Haraam (the Sacred House). Sixty of these descend on those who perform the Tawaaf, forty on those who are engaged in prayer and twenty on those who look (at Ka’bah) (Bayhaqi, Targheeb)

TRY AND STRIVE (Al-Jihad)

SAYINGS OF THE MESSENGER OF THE CREATOR (70 TO 77)
(SALLALLAHO-ALAIHE-WA-AALEHI-WASALLAM)
TRY AND STRIVE (Al-Jihad)
70.  Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The fire of Hell will not touch two eyes, one that weeps from fear of Allah and the other that has spent the night as sentry for the sake of Allah. (Tirmizi, Targheeb)
71.  Sayyidina ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar(Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
May I not reveal to you a night that is superior to the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power)? (it is the night) when someone stands on sentry duty (during Jihad) on a land where there is fear of the enemy and the risk of not being able to return to one’s family. (Haakim, Targheeb)
72.  Sayyidina ‘Ali bin ‘Abu Taalib (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone contributes towards Jihad in the cause of Allah and himself stays at home then against every dirham that he gives he will get reward for seven hundred dirham. As for him who personally takes part in the jihad at the same time as making a monetary contribution then against every dirham he will get a reward for seven hundred thousand dirhams. Besides, Allah may increase reward of anyone as many times as He chooses. (Ibn Majah, Targheeb)
73.  Sayyidina Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If a person equips a Ghazi (a warrior) in the path of Allah he is also a Ghazi. As for him  who acts as a representative of the Ghazi and is kind to his family (in his absence) then he too is a Ghazi. (Bukhari, Muslim, Targheeb)
74.  Sayyidina Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The doors of Paradise are under the shade of swords. (Muslim, Tirmizi, Targheeb)
75.  Sayyidina Anas bin Maalik (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
To go out in the cause of Allah once in the morning or in the evening is better than the world and what it contains. (Bukhari, Muslim, Targheeb)
76.  Sayyidina ‘Imraan bin Haseen (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Anyone standing in the rows (of Jihad) for the sake of Allah is superior in the sight of Allah to sixty years in worship. (Haakim, Targheeb)
77.  Sayyidina Mu’aaz bin Jabal (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
As for the Muslim who participates in Jihad only so long as it takes for milk to reappear in the udders of a she-camel after it has been milked once, Paradise becomes definite for him. As for him, who suffers an injury in the path of Allah or gets a scratch, on the Day of Resurrection the Mark will appear as large as possible in saffron colour and odour of musk. (Abu Dawood, Tirmizi, Targheeb)
