Commentary

It is commanded that Allah Almighty has fixed the Law of life for the Mankind. Well being of mankind depends on this Law in the world. And if he acted upon this Law after having belief in Allah Almighty, then it would be also a provision for welfare of the Hereafter. Many philosophies have been filled in this Law, whether the mankind does know it or otherwise. Even if he carried this Law into effect without thinking, he would succeed. Therefore, Holy Qur’an has saved this Law for the mankind for always. By setting in order, It has been explained in these verses according to following sections and along with it their philosophies have also been described, so that whosoever wishes to understand them; may understand easily in accord with own sense:

1.      Worship none save Allah Almighty. Make only Him your Single, One Worshipped. By this; you will get satisfaction of your heart and consolation.

2.      Show kindness to your parents. When they become old and you see them necessitous of others in their all works, then you should speak unto them softly a gracious word. Because of weakness they can be peevish and fretful. Be careful! You should never say to them any such word; by which they are displeased even a little. Whatever you say to them; say such word; by which they are pleased. Show not by your behavior with them that you are ill-tempered, for example, “Fie”, “Alas”, “Cautious” or “Be quiet” etc.

Success of this world and the Hereafter - Quran Chapter 17 – 21 & 22 (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1796) درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 17  21 & 22 (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1796) درس قرآن

Success of this world and the Hereafter

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

It has been mentioned in first two Sections of this Chapter that Allah Almighty arranged for guidance of human beings, appointed His Messengers (peace be upon them) chosen from the people and sent unto them from time to time. Their responsibility was to show the mankind Straight Path. Therefore, after Adam (peace be upon him), Noah (peace be upon him) was sent to guide the human beings. When the people refused to accept the guidance, then they were ruined by storm, and only those people were saved who rode on Noah’s (peace be upon him) ship.

After that, as per the requirement, the Messengers (peace be upon them) used to come and strive for purifying the world from mischief-makers from time to time. When the human beings peopled everywhere in the world, then a complete Law was given to the folk of the children of Israel by means of Moses (peace be upon him) for their guidance. And they were warned: If you will oppose it then you will be punished.

If this nation had followed the commands mentioned in Torah, then they might be a pattern of good morality for the world. But they put the commands of Torah behind their back, began to fulfill their evil wishes and subverted the world by their wicked deeds. Allah Almighty gave them punishment of their evil deeds in the worldly life.

When the field was cleared from those people, then Allah Almighty sent His last Messenger; Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) along with His last Scripture (Holy Qur’an) for the guidance of the entire human beings of the world and took in charge of Himself his (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) education and training.

Even in the beginning of this Chapter, brief outline about the circumstances of the Children of Israel was drawn that they did not reap advantage from Our (God’s) Guidance. You should not adopt the habits as of them. They dropped behind the world, you should not do so, but you should choose the Hereafter. We had shown the Path to the Children of Israel that they should pass their worldly life in such a way by making the Hereafter their Object that the life of this world may be correct also and even the Hereafter should not lose.

In the next fifteen verses, that entire moral education has been taught; upon which the Believers of Holy Qur’an should act necessarily, so that they may succeed in the life of both “this world and the Hereafter”.

21.  See how We prefer one of them above another. And verily the Hereafter will be greater in degrees and greater in preferment.

Commentary

Makhzuulan – (forsaken), this word has been derived from khazlun which means “to forsake, to abandon, to desert and run away”.

It has been explained in this verse that Allah Almighty has preferred some people; concerning the provisions; above others. When for some people; all circumstances become auspicious, they acquire more wealth and dignity. But the circumstances of some people do not become favorable, so they remain in lower grades.

Therefore, it is commanded: It is not necessary that every seeker of the world can acquire it according to own wishes. So seeking the world only is useless. Allah Almighty can give as much as He desires to give any person. But surely that person will be in ease and comfort on the Day of Resurrection who will seek the Hereafter. Although there too, will be the people of lower and higher grades, but the mankind of every grade will be pleasant and satisfied at own place.

Contrary to them, no individual of any grade is happy and satisfied heartily in the world. it is commanded: Whether the grades of the Hereafter are of different types, but those will be cause of pleasure and satisfaction. So the grades of the Hereafter are preferable in all respect if we compare them with the grades of this world. First condition for acquiring those grades is that we should not set up any other god with Allah Almighty, otherwise we shall sit down reproved, forsaken and be disappointed entirely in the Hereafter.

Commentary

It has been mentioned in this verse that the person who gave preference to the Hereafter; instead of this world and tried to succeed in the Day of Resurrection with necessary effort according to that method which has been prescribed, moreover he believed and put faith in Allah Almighty, that His all Promises are true which He made, and certainly those entire Promises will be fulfilled, efforts of such person will be flourishing. Assuredly, he will be let to live a satisfied, peaceful, comfortable and pleasant life on the Day of Resurrection.

The aim from the words of this verse is: The effort of such person will be as of those who are thankful to their Lord. That is to say, their effort will find God’s favor. After that, it is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! There is no hindrance which may stop the Bounty of your Lord. The only difference is that the person who will be seeker of the world, nothing will be given to him on the Day of Resurrection. However if Allah Almighty willed, he would be provided in the world as much as it would be suitable in accordance with the existing circumstances. But the seeker of the Hereafter will be bestowed certainly on that Day, however Allah Almighty can give him abundant in the world if the circumstances are favorable.

Hell for those who love worldly life - Quran Chapter 17 – 18 (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1793) درس قرآن

Hell for those who love worldly life

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

18.  Whoso desireth that (life) which hasteneth away, We hasten for him therein that which We will for whom We please; then We have appointed for him Hell; he will endure the heat thereof, condemned, rejected.
18.  Man  kaana  yuriidul-‘aaji-lata  ‘ajjalNaa  lahuu  fiihaa  maa  Nashaaa-‘u  liman-Nuriidu  summa  ja-‘alNaa  lahuu  Jahannam.  Yaslaahaa  mazmuumam-mad-huuraa.

Commentary

Mazmuumun – (condemned, in worst condition), origin of this word is zamm, which means “to pronounce guilty”. Mazmuum means “that which is condemned”.

Mad-huuran – (rejected), this word has been derived from dah-run, which means “to push, to reject”. Mad-huur means “damned, accursed, despised”.

It has been described in this verse that the people who liked only the life of this world and devised that they will receive here quickly everything, and they will not dwell as the abstinent people live; waiting for the next life, such people should be attentive that Allah Almighty will give them respite and bestow quickly whatever and how much will He desire. It is not necessary that every individual is provided what he wishes. But because he has intended to take everything in the life of this world and abandoned the life of the Hereafter, therefore, nothing will be given to such person in the life after death. And the love of the world, which was in his heart, that will adopt; There; very bad and hateful form. And Allah Almighty will send him duly rejected into the Hell like a guilty who is in worst condition. And at last, he will dwell forever there as he has been exhausted.

Known from this verse clearly is that the love of this world is an inauspiciousness which will bloom after death. The people who are satisfied with the worldly life and they have been collecting goods for pleasantness of this life, it is not necessary that their efforts may achieve hundred per cent success. Every individual will be bestowed with that what is in his luck. But the love of the world, which has made room in his heart, that will carry him in the Hell after death. That person will hate own position, will be disgraced before others and pushed towards the Hell.

16,  And when We decide to destroy a township We send commandment to its folk who live at ease, and afterward they commit abomination therein, and so the Word (of doom) hath effect for it, and We annihilate it with complete annihilation.

17.  And how many generations have We destroyed since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as Knower and Beholder of the sins of His slaves.
16.  Wa  ‘izaaa  ‘aradNaaa  ‘an-Nuhlika  qaryatan  ‘amarNaa  mutrafiihaa  fa-fasaquu  fiihaa  fa-haqqa  ‘alayhal-qawlu  fa-dammar-Naahaa  tadmiiraa.

Commentary

Mutrafiihaa – (the people of it who live at ease), this word is “the Passive Participle” which is plural of “mutrafun”. It has been derived from the word ‘itraafun. Its origin is tarafun, which means “prosperity”. ‘Itraafun means “to make prosperous”. Mutrafun means “one who has been made prosperous”.

Tadmiir – (to annihilate), origin of this word is damar, which means “ruin, destruction”. Tadmiir means “to destroy”. DammarNaa is past tense from the same.

In this verse, previous contents have been explained that “as a fixed rule, We send Our Messengers (peace be upon them) in the world. When the people of a folk who live at ease, disobey the commandment, then all of them are annihilated completely because of their disobedience. In this case many townships were destroyed after Noah (peace be upon him).

Allah Almighty is Sufficient to know and behold the sins of His slaves. In this verse, there is a warning that first of all, rich and effectual persons among the people go astray. Then other people also go with the stream. After that, the ruin comes because of their evil days.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

15.  Whosoever goeth right, it is only for (the good of) his own soul that he goeth right, and whosoever erreth, erreth only to its hurt. And no laden soul can bear another’s load. And We never punish until We have sent a messenger.
15.  Manihtadaa  fa-‘innamaa  yahtadii  li-nafsih.  Wa  man  zalla  fa-‘innamaa  yazillu  ‘alay-haa.  Wa  laa  taziru  waazira-tunw-wizra  ‘ukhraa.  Wa  maa  kunnaa  mu-‘azzibiina  hattaa  Nab-‘asa  rasuulaa.

Commentary

Wa  laa  taziru – this sentence has passed in Suratul-‘An’aam (Chapter 6) as it is. Waaziratun means “one who bears load, laden soul”. It is an attribute of the soul, so it is in feminine form.

It is commanded that the mankind should understand it carefully that the Path towards which Allah Almighty calls and unto which the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) invites, that is a Straight Path of mankind’s success. The person; who chose that Path, chose for himself and certainly he will reap abundant advantages of that Path. But if any person will leave that Path and will adopt any other path, he will be in danger at every step. And he will be punished very severely because of error and leaving the right path.

You should bear in mind that every individual will be responsible of own deeds. It cannot be that load of one person may bear someone else. It is a universal law for the mankind that “As you sow so you shall reap”. It cannot be that “The sins of parents visit their children”. Evil deed recoils against the doer. Therefore, every individual should engage himself in correcting own deeds. For causing to understand the same Rule, Allah Almighty appointed His Prophets (peace be upon them) in every nation.

It is commanded: At first, We send Our Messenger (peace be upon him) unto the people, so that he should warn and frighten them about the consequences of wicked deeds. Then We punish the wrongdoers. Sending doom without information, on the people who do wrong, is not Our Manner.

Commentary

Taaa-‘irun – ( a bird), it is  a Subject from the word tayr, which means “to fly’. “Taaa-‘ir” means “a bird, winged creature”. The people of Arab used to practice augury - good or bad; from flying of the bird towards right or left, and doing of the work or otherwise; was dependant on it. By this relation, it meant “the work”.

It is commanded: You will be called to account unavoidably for the work which you do intentionally after consideration in this world. On the Day of Resurrection, Character Book of every individual will be put up before him/her. And they will see clearly their every deed recorded in it. Then it will be said to them: Receive and read it thoroughly, and check your account of good and evil deeds which you did in the world. Today; there is no need of it that someone should sue against you and cause to find you guilty for punishment by the decision of any so-called court. Today you own are sufficient to take an account of yourself. Pretences and self-deceptions as of the world; will not be useful Here (on the Doomsday). Your own inner eyes will be lightened as much that those will begin to look clearly goodness and badness of own deeds, and you will be confuted yourself that: I did wrong upon myself by rejecting Holy Qur’an.

Commentary

It is commanded: Days and nights have been appointed by Allah Almighty as two portents of His Omnipotence. One of them is dark, in which the things cannot be seen till the time some light is not arranged. This light is dim also and cannot be compared with the day-light, in which everything is visible clearly. The sun provides this bright light of the day, which rises at its appointed time every day. For the light at night, Allah Almighty created the moon, light of which is dim. Then He arranged a system for the sun and the moon that they rise and set regularly in such a way that by them; computation of days, months and years can become easy. And regular system of days and nights is helpful in acquisition of the subsistence of life.

Secondly, regularity and slow motion of sun and moon, teaches the human being also that there is no need of hastiness in performing the works. Everything will happen at its proper time.

Allah Almighty commands: We have expounded clearly about all such matters which are useful for human beings.
