An Other Arrogance Of Israelite

One more arrogance of the Children of Israel (L-86)

55.  Wa ‘iz  qultum  yaa-Muusaa lan-nu’-mina laka hattaa narAllaaha  jahratan- fa-‘akhazat-kumus-saa-‘iqatu  wa ‘antum tanzuruun.

55.  And when you said: O Moses! We will not believe in you till we see Allah manifestly; and even while you gazed the lightning seized you.

Naraa – (we shall see). Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) brought seventy chosen persons from the Children of Israel on the Sinai Mount for causing to hear the Speech of God Almighty. When they heard the Word, they said, “O Moses! We do not believe in listening from the veil. Show us with open eyes.

‘Akhazat-kumus-saa-‘iqatu – (the lightning seized you). The Children of Israel were falsifying the words of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and claiming that they were desirous of looking God with open eyes, otherwise they would not believe in Him. So they were punished as the lightning fell suddenly upon them due to which their eyes were dazzled and their eyesight became unable to see anything.

It has been discussed earlier that when Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) went on the Sinai Mount for obtaining Guide Book (Torah) for the Children of Israel, they began worshiping the calf in his absence and involved in plurality of God. When he returned, it was proclaimed by Allaah Almighty that they should kill one another as punishment of plurality with Him. Then they began killing one another. At that time God, the Most High relented and their penitence was accepted.

After that, seventy old-men from the Children of Israel demanded that they would go on the Mount of Sinai with Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) to hear the Word of God Almighty. Prophet Moses brought them with himself. He instructed them to stay in the feet of Mountain and went on the Mountain himself. God Almighty spoke with Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and after returning he told them. Then they said, “We wish to see God Almighty with our eyes”.

Due to their opposing and refusal openly, they were punished and the lightning fell down upon them, and they were perished. After observing so much big miracles and getting favors of God Almighty; the Children of Israel could not give up their old bad habits. They wished to see God Almighty with these bodily eyes, which is impossible. So they were punished in such a way.

Punishment Due to Ascribing Plurality to God

Punishment of ascribing Plurality to God (L-85)

54.  Wa ‘iz qaala Muusaa li-Qawmihii  yaa-qawmi  ‘innakum zalamtum  ‘anfusa-kum  bit-tikhaazikumul-‘ijla  fatuubuuu  ‘ilaa  Baari-‘ikum faqtuluuu  ‘anfusakum.  Zaalikum khay-rul-lakum ‘inda  Baari-‘ikum  Fataaba ‘alaykum ‘InnaHuuu Huwat-Tawwaa-bur-Rahiim.

54.  And when Moses said unto his people: O my people! You have wronged yourselves by your choosing of the calf (for worship), so turn in penitence to your Creator, and kill (the guilty) yourselves. That will be best for you with your Creator and He will relent toward you. Lo! He is the Relenting, the Merciful.

Li-Qawmihii – (unto his people, to His nation), in this verse aim from li-Qawmihii is particularly those persons who fell prostrate before the calf supposing their worshipped.

Zalamtum – (you have wronged, you have lost), it means that they were involved again in plurality leaving the Unity (Oneness of God Almighty). How might be more than it loss of an individual over himself?

Faqtuluuu  ‘anfusakum – So kill (the guilty) yourselves. It signifies towards the people who did not fall prostrate before the calf that they should kill them who prostrated before it. The scholars have commented that there were three groups in the Children of Israel:

  • Those people who did not fall prostrate before the calf and forbade others not to do so. They were pious persons.
  • Those people who prostrated.
  • There was a group of people who did neither prostrate themselves and nor they forbid others from prostrating.

So the pious people were commanded that they should kill them who fell prostrate. In fact; the afterward two groups deserved the punishment.

Khay-rul-lakum – it is best for you. It aims that when you will kill one another; you will become chaste from the stench of sin and will acquire absolution and freedom.

In this verse, God Almighty tells the Children of Israel, “You could not remain on the straight path in the absence of Prophet (peace be upon him), involved in plurality and idol worshiping. You have lost much due to this deed of yours. Now it is its punishment that you must kill one another yourselves. When the Children of Israel obeyed the order of God Almighty, then they repented and God, the Most high accepted their penitence. Success in this world and on the Day of Resurrection for the human being is in obeying the Commandments of God Almighty whether he knows or doesn’t know its philosophy and advisability. And if he has mistaken with error, by forgetting or unintentionally, then he should be ready every time for acceptance and correctness.

The Scripture And The Criterion

The Scripture and the Criterion (L-84)

53.  And when We gave unto Moses the Scripture and the Criterion (of right and wrong) that you might be led aright.

’Al-Furqaan – the Standard of Judging, the Orders, Commandments or Mandates, which separate and disunite right and wrong. This word has been derived from the word faraqa, the word tafriiq is also from the same origin, which means “to divide or distinguish”; the Holy Books (as distinguishing or separating the truth from falsehood). The Commentators of the Religion have different sayings about Furqaan:

1.   The Miracles which were bestowed to Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) from God, the Most High.

2.   Such victory and overcoming which was gained by the children of Israel against the Army of Pharaoh.

3.   The Jews understand also from this word, those verbal teachings which were revealed upon Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) besides Torah.

4.   ‘Al-Furqaan is the name of Holy Qur’an too as well as other Heavenly Books are called Furqaan also, because these Commandments differentiate between the Right and the Wrong.

In this verse ‘al-Furqaan means the Orders and Commandments by which the true and the false, the right and the wrong, the goodness and the evil may be separated from one another and there may not remain any accommodation for doubt and suspicion.

When repentance of the Children of Israel was accepted, Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) went again to the Mount Sinai (Koh–i–Toor) and brought many Commandments from God Almighty which were written on the Tablets. The Collection of those Orders is called Torah.

God Almighty is reminding the Children of Israel His Favors in this verse. He commands them, “You disobeyed Our Orders and began worshipping the Calf, but We forgave you with Our kindness. Then We revealed upon Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) such Scripture, which contained complete Law of Divine and a Guide (Torah), so that you may pass your lives according to its instructions. By that Scripture, it was easy to distinguish between just and absurd, lawful and unlawful, good and bad, Right and Wrong.”

It is known from this lesson that the Holy Book revealed from Allaah Almighty and the Measure (Mizan) among the just and the absurd is a great blessing for the mankind. The Guidance can be obtained from it only, and only those individuals are successful who act upon the Holy Word of God Almighty, and take guidance from the Balance of true and false. It is incumbent upon us that we should correct our words and deeds in the light of Holy Qur’an and Sayings of the last Prophet Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), grow the virtue of distinguishing among the true and the false into ourselves and don’t consider that the good and the bad are equal. We should keep distinction between lawful and unlawful before us every time.

Announcement of Pardon

Announcement of pardon (L-83)

52.  Then, even after that, We pardoned you in order that you might give thanks.

Tash-kuruun – (you might give thanks). This word has been derived from the word Shukar. Shukar means thanks, gratitude and just an appreciation. Aim of the Shukar in Islam is a just appreciation for the favors of God Almighty by the mankind. An individual should use His favors and Grants in a right and sound manner. He must not be thankless or disesteem.

It was discussed in the previous lesson that Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) went on the Mount Sinai in obedience of God Almighty, so that he should worship Him there and bring from Him a Guide Book for their nation. After the expiry of thirty days, he was commanded to stay there ten more days, and he (peace be upon him) was late.

In the absence of the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), Saamrii, who was a wicked juggler, created a calf (a sound used to come out from its mouth), produced it before the Children of Israel and told, “this calf is the worshipped of yours and Moses (peace be upon him), so you must worship it”. Then immediately, save a few people, the entire nation fell prostrate before the calf and began to worship it with extremely lowness.

When Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) returned from the Mount of Sinai, He saw that the entire Children of Israel had been misled. He filled with fury and threw away those Tablets of Commandments, which He had brought with him and asked his brother Aaron furiously. Aaron (peace be upon him) stated the entire story and told about his own helplessness.

Finally, God Almighty ordered, “Throw the calf into the sea and kill one another because it is the only way to accept your repentance.” So, two thousand persons were slain in a day. At last Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) prayed in the Court of Allaah Almighty and they received the commandment of forgiveness.

It is Mercy and Grace of God Almighty only that the mankind errs but He overlooks from them. As soon as the mankind admits his negligence and promises to refrain from evils in future, God Almighty forgives. If any individual does not admit His kindness upon even it; then it will be infinite thankless and worthlessness. This error is not forgivable.

Worship Of A Calf

Worshiping a calf (L-82)

51.  Wa ‘iz waa-‘adNaa Muusaaa ‘arba-iina lay-latan-  summat-takhaztu-mul-‘ijla mim- ba’-dihii wa ‘antum zaalimuun.

51.  And when We did appoint for Moses forty nights (of solitude), and then you chose the calf, when he had gone from you, and you were wrongdoers.

Muusaaa – (Moses) was a great, glorious and favorite Prophet (peace be upon him) of God Almighty. Mostly the Commentators of the religion imagine that the word ‘Moses’ has been derived from Hebrew language. Some scholars say that it is an Egyptian word which means a child or a son. Father’s name of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was ‘Imran. His sister’s name was Mary and Brother Aaron. They both were elder than him. The Time of Moses (peace be upon him) is stated as 1500 B.C. or 1300 B.C. He drove the Children of Israel away from the slavery of Pharaoh and his folk.

In this verse, God; the Most High narrated the incidents of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and his nation, which happened after crossing of the Red Sea. When Moses (peace be upon him) reached near the Mountain Sinai (famous place for the conversation between Moses and God Almighty) after crossing the sea, God Almighty commanded him to worship for forty nights on the Mountain Sinai (Koh-i-Tuur). Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) went for worship on the Mountain Sinai; obeying this order and appointed his brother, Aaron (peace be upon him) for looking after the nation in his absence.

After departure of Moses (peace be upon him), obstinacy and liberty grew in the nation (the Children of Israel). Even in the presence of Aaron (peace be upon him) they did not incline towards the worship of God. It seems that they did not forget so far the Idol-worshipping of the Egyptians. They were simpleton. From them, a conjurer named ‘Saamrii’ (who was a story-teller) reaped advantage of their weakness (simplicity) and made a calf of gold. Whenever it used to blow, a meaningless sound used to come out from the mouth of lifeless calf. That sound was wonderful for them, as though the children may get different sounds from the ordinary toys of animals. The entire Children of Israel began worshipping the calf except a few persons from them.

Prophet Aaron (peace be upon him) caused his best to understand them but they did not turn unto God-worshiping. As though they could not remain on the straight path during the forty days’ absence of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). And leaving God Almighty; they started worshipping the calf, which was self-fabricated and false. It was their much bigger weakness and till today; some nations are involved in the same error.

Drowning The Folk Of Pharaoh

Drowning of the folk of Pharaoh (L-81)

50.  Wa ‘iz faraqNaa bikumul-bahra fa-‘anjay-Naakum  wa ‘agraq-Naaa ‘Aala- Fir-‘awna wa ‘antum   tanzuruun.

50.  And when We brought you through the sea and rescued you, and drowned the folk of Pharaoh in your sight.

‘Al-bahra – (Sea), here, aim from ‘al-bahra is the Red Sea (Arabian Gulf). It is also called a deep sea. Through this sea - Egypt meets with Syria and Valley of Sinai. The Children of Israel entered the Valley of Sinai after crossing this Sea and got freedom from Pharaoh and folks of Egypt.

FaraqNaa bikumul-bahra - (We brought you through the Sea). It indicates towards the incident mentioned in this verse that when the Children of Israel began crossing the Red Sea, God Almighty created for them a way to cross the sea. It was a Miracle of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) that when He beat His stick on the water of sea, the bottom of the sea became dry and then there was a path for the Children of Israel to cross the sea. According to historians, this incident happened nearly during 1447 B.C.

Wa ‘antum tanzuruun – (And you were looking). The Children of Israel are being told that they had seen with their open eyes the infamy and disgraced death of their greatest cruel and despotic king.

The Children of Israel used to bear cruelties of their tyrant Kings of Egypt for many years. After all, they devised that they should leave Egypt and go to their ancestor’s native Country Syria and Palestine under the supervision of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). Because the government of Egypt was not agreeing to permit them leaving Egypt, so they started their journey at night. They had fear of following by the Egyptian government, grief on leaving their homes and utter darkness of night. Due to fear and confusion they forgot the correct path.

On the other side, Pharaoh had known that the Children of Israel had run away. He followed with his Army and reached near them. Then the Jews were entirely helpless. In front of them, there was sea in the east and behind them a great Egyptian Army. The Children of Israel were very confused as they had been surrounded. At that time, Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) beat His stick in the sea according to the commandment of God Almighty. Water of the sea was cracked and the dry land appeared. Caravan of the Children of Israel crossed the sea. Meanwhile the Army of Pharaoh reached there. They saw dried path and dropped down. But they were still in the middle of the way that the water became in a level and met mutually itself. Pharaoh drowned along with his Army. The Children of Israel looked the show of drowning their enemy helplessly with their eyes. Above mentioned verse signifies towards such story.

Tremendous Trial of Israelite

Misfortune of the Children of Israel (L-80)

49.  Wa ‘iz najjay-Naakum-min –‘Aali- Fir-‘awna yasuu-muuna- kum  suuu-‘al-‘azaabi yuzab-bihuuna ‘abnaaa-‘akum wa yas-tah-yuuna nisaaa-‘akum.  Wa fii zaalikum balaaa-‘um-mir-Rabbikum ‘aziim.

49.  And (remember) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh’s folk, who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaying your sons and sparing your women. And that was a tremendous trial from your Lord.

‘Aali- Fir-‘awna – (Folk, people, near relatives, religion fellows, servants and children of Pharaoh), Pharaoh was title of the King of Egypt. Usually the people imagine a king of the Egypt who was named as Pharaoh. In fact it was not the name of one person. But it was surname of the entire kings of Egypt as the title of the king of China was “Khaqan” (Emperor) and the surname of the King of Rome was ‘Caesar’.

Prophet Joseph (Peace be upon him) brought and populated the Israelites in Egypt. They lived in Egypt hundreds of years and their population reached in many hundred thousands. The King of Egypt made them his slaves and treated them extremely disgracefully and contemptibly.

Once, the King dreamed at night. He gathered soothsayers and asked them to interpret his dream in the morning, “I have seen a fire coming from the Temple of Jerusalem. It has besieged the Egypt and begun to burn the ‘Qabtees’ (Egyptians) choosing one by one”. Listening to it the soothsayers told the King that a child would be born among the Israelites, who would become cause of your death and fall of your Emperor.

Pharaoh collected the entire nurses and midwives of the country and ordered them, “Kill the sons of the Israelites at once when and where anyone of them comes into world by birth. However the girls must be left alive.” Due to orders of the King thousands of the sons of Israelites were killed. After all, the Chieftains of Egypt thought, “If all the boys of Israelites are killed in this manner, who will serve us?”

Listening to it, Pharaoh ordered, “Continue killing process for one year and stop it for the next year regularly”. The year in which killing process was postponed, in that year Prophet Aaron (peace be upon him) was born and in the year when killing process was in force, during that period Prophet Moses (Peace be upon him) came in this world. But Allaah, the Most High saved his life with His sound policy and he could not be slain.

Above mentioned verse indicates towards such event. Folk of Pharaoh had put the children of Israel in so much difficult calamity and labor. Finally God Almighty set them free from these afflictions by means of His Prophet Moses (Peace be upon him).

What Will Be Used On The Day Of Resurrection?

What will be useful on the Day of Resurrection (L-79)

48.  WattaquuYawmal-laa tajzii nafsun ‘an-nafsin- shay-‘anw-wa laa yuqbalu minhaa shafaa-‘atunw-wa  laa  yu’-khazu minhaa  ‘ad-lunw-wa laa  hum yun-saruun.

48.  And guard yourselves against a Day when no soul will in aught avail another, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be received from it, nor will they be helped.

Yawmun – (the Day), here it aims the Day of Resurrection. It is necessary for giving up worldly amusements and performing good deeds that the Faith in the Day of Resurrection or Rewards and punishment on one’s deeds should exist in the religion, so that the people would have to leave their evils and bad acts due to the concept of that Day and do good works; having the hope of rewards. With the passage of time, the Belief in the Day of Resurrection had been exterminated from the hearts of the Jews, so they are being warned of the Day of Judgment.

‘Ad-lun – (justice, revenge, reward, exchange, equality, accuracy, rivalry etc.), if remuneration or compensation is given for anything, that is considered equal to the capital. So the word ‘ad-lun is used as the exchange. It also means justice or equity because by doing justice among two parties, it becomes equity.

It was the concept of the Jews, “As how much we commit evils and sins, we shall not be punished because our forefathers were Prophets (peace be upon them). They will cause us to forgive”. God Almighty commands that such faith of theirs was totally false. The guilty would have to be punished for his sins properly.

Usually, there are four forms to set the criminal free:

  • Any other individual should admit that the crime was committed by him (instead of the actual guilty).
  • Set the guilty free on anyone’s recommendations.
  • Let him off by paying some compensation (cash).
  • Get him free violently.

There is no any such form out of the above, which may be of use for the evildoer on the Day of Judgment.

On the Day of Resurrection, every individual will think about him/herself only. Nobody will be able to intercede for any other without permission of God Almighty. He does not need any wealth and property that the ransom may be accepted by Him. There is no such power in the heavens and in the earth, which may compel Allaah Almighty, Who is the Most High, and set the sinners free from Him.

Allaah Almighty rendered the faith of the Jews null and void by revealing the verse under discussion and caused them to know that they must come back towards the straight path; having fear of the Day of Resurrection.

Preference to The Children Of Israel

Preference to The Children Of Israel (L-78)

47.  Yaa-Baniii- ‘Israaa-‘iilaz-kuruu ni’-mati-yal-latiii ‘an-‘amtu ‘alaykum wa ‘anNii faz-zaltukum  ‘alal-‘aalamiin.

47.  O Children of Israel! Remember My favour wherewith I favoured you and how I preferred you to (all) creatures.

Faz-zaltukum – (preferred you), this word has come out from the word Fazal, which means preference. Aim of giving preference over the entire world is that the Children of Israel remained most excellent over entire communities and there was none peer of them. However, when they left the Truth; forgot the Divine’s Law and opposed the last Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), then that preference was snatched from them and they earned anger of God Almighty. Destruction was in their fate, and the Muslim nation was given the title of “Khayra ‘Ummah” (Best Nation)

‘Alal-‘Aalamiin – (over all creatures), here ‘Aalamiin means the entire nations of the world.

There was a time when the Children of Israel were preferred over all the people of this world. When other nations were going astray in the darkness and depravity, were involved in infidelity and worshiping of Idols, were engaged in corruption and heresy, then there was only the nation Israelite, who had concept of the Oneness of God and they had Heavenly Guide Book “Torah”. What would be the preference more than it?

Slowly and gradually, these people went astray from the straight path due to their weaknesses and corruptions, and left the Heavenly Guidance behind. So God Almighty admonishes them on the point, “Admit your real religion in its correct form and come on to the straight path.”

It was difficult to acquire faith and Fear of God (piety) through patience and worship. So its easy and simple way has been explained, which is gratitude. God Almighty reminds the Children of Israel His favors, presents and honors, which He had bestowed upon them from time to time and discloses also their wicked deeds. It is a nature of the mankind that he begins to love with his benefactor and beneficent. So Allaah Almighty warns them about His favors, and guides them towards the straight path.

It is the Token of warning for the people of the entire world that the Children of Israel fell down in the well of the wrath of God after acquiring so much higher rank of preference. We should gain advice from their condition and try to keep ourselves away from such acts, which became reason of their depravity, ruin and destruction.

Seek Help In Patience, Prayer and Concept of Doomsday

Seeking help in patience and prayer (L-76)

45. Wasta-‘iinuu bis-Sabri was-Salaah. Wa ‘innahaa lakabii-ratun ‘illaa ‘alal- Khaashi-iin.

45.  And seek help in patience and prayer. And truly it is hard save for the humble-minded—

‘Asta-‘iinuu – (seek help). This word has been derived from ‘awn, which means “help and support”. Origin of this word is ‘ista-‘aanat, which means “to seek help”. When someone feels a work difficult, he needs help of any other person/thing. In such situation, whoever requests for help, is called musta-‘iin, and who helps the needy, is called – Mu-‘iin. More explanation from it is musta-‘iin, which is from ‘ista-‘aanat (begging for help), and ‘a-‘aanat from mu-‘iin (helping someone).

‘As-Sabru – (power of endurance, patience and tolerance), it is required every time. When any good work is being performed, doing it wholeheartedly is also patience; and when someone has to suffer from any calamity, bearing it without confusion is tolerance too. During working hard, the patience is necessary also. To keep the wishes pressed needs patience too. In short, patience is required every time and if we behold; it is the foundation of every good virtue.

God Almighty bestowed the mankind two things - soul and body. These both are very great blessings. Duty of the soul is to acquire knowledge, to devise and to take work from the body. And it is the duty of the body that it should move in accord with the intention of the soul. Prayer is a means of gratitude for these spiritual and bodily blessings. Recognizing Allaah Almighty is the thanks of the knowledge. Gratitude of the blessings of standing position is that someone should pray before God Almighty in straight standing position, then bow and remember Him in such position and then fall prostrate and remember Allaah in such position; that due to His blessings - hands from elbows, legs from knees, hands and feet from wrists and ankles can be bent. This is the great blessings; otherwise if any joint becomes stiff, then it would have a severe thrashing. Then the person must sit down and think that how is it a great blessing? Remember the blessing of turning the neck at the time of saying “‘As-salaamu ‘Alaykum  wa RahmatUllaah” to the right and then to the left.  Eventually, the person should thank God with tongue also by adopting every position of the body with intention. It is called a prayer.

'Al- Khaashi-iin – (humble-minded people who fear God); this word has been derived from khushuu’, which means “to disclose one’s humility” and it is the biggest worship by the heart, the individuals who suppose themselves weak and feeble without help of God, are called ‘al-Khaashi-iin. It is the great worship of the heart to assert one’s humility during standing position, bowing position, prostrating position and in sitting position before God Almighty, because in prostrate position, all limbs of the body are bent which is a sign of capability to work and health of the body. So the prostration is the best form for declaration of the gratitude and conception of helplessness. We should think that if the body parts do neither turn and nor move then the mankind is helpless and crippled. From it, those people should learn who deem that the prayer is useless.

Sense Of Worship

Prayer, Poor-due and Unity (L-74)

43.  Wa  ‘aqiimus-Salaata wa   ‘aatuz-Zakaata  warka-‘uu  ma-‘ar-raaki-‘iin.

43.  And establish worship and pay the poor-due, and bow your heads with those who bow (in worship).

‘Az-Zakaata – (the poor-due), zakaat means “to increase”. Like this zakaatuz-zara’ means “husbandry increased”. By spending wealth on lawful works and paying to the deserving people for the cause of Allaah Almighty, it increases. Therefore, after passing a year, giving a prescribed portion of the wealth in the name of God Almighty, is called Zakaat. Other meanings of it are chastity, purity and cleanliness, really after paying Zakaat (the Poor-due), the property becomes pure. Salaat (prayer) and Zakaat (poor-due) are two such duties, which remained part of worship always in every religion; however, difference remained among their forms and propositions.

‘Arka-‘uu – (Bow), this word has come out from Rakuu’, which means “to lean, to bow”. As it is a part of the Prayer, so it is also used usually for the whole prayer. Sometimes, the word ‘Asjuduu (fall prostrate) has come along with it too.

At the time of inviting the Jews unto Islam, God Almighty commanded that they must correct at first their faith and belief, and that they should produce real teachings of God before the people in its original form, and not to mix up (neither reduce nor increase) anything with it at their own.

Now they are being taught for action. So, it is commanded that they should form a habit themselves for offering prayers, perform this duty punctually and regularly. The prayer is the most superior form of worship from entire other bodily worships and the best way of recognizing God Almighty and pleasing to Him.

After the prayer, they are being instructed that they should pay Zakaat (the poor-due) every year from their wealth in accordance with the rules. They must pay a prescribed portion of their wealth (2.5%) every year to the poor, meek, deserving and needy people for the sake of God Almighty. They should spend their wealth given by Allaah Almighty on useful public works of welfare.

The Jews were very rich because most of the people from them were merchants and artificers, so it was dangerous for them that boundless love for wealth might be born in their hearts. Its remedy is attainable by offering prayers and giving Alms and poor-dues to the poor and needy people with sympathy and knowledge about their necessities. Therefore, they were commanded that they should offer congregational prayers in the Masjid with those who offer prayers and bow down when they bow, and pay the poor-due to the deserving persons. This congregation and unity have many advantages.

To Conceal The Truth Is Not Allowed

Concealing The Truth Is Not Allowed (L-73)

42.  Wa laa talbisul-Haqqa bil-baatili  wa taktumul-Haqqa  wa ‘antum  ta’-lamuun.

42.  And confound not truth with falsehood, and do not conceal the truth knowingly.

Laa talbisuu – (do not confound). This word has been derived from labasa, which means “to mix up a thing with any other, so that, it may become difficult to distinguish among them i.e. to expose the false as true or to coat the lie as such that it appears like really true.

Taktumuu – (do not conceal). This word has come out from the word katama. Meaning of katama is to conceal. There are two ways to change the Commands of God Almighty, which are as under:

•        Changing the meaning or the word itself.

•        Concealing the truth.

The Children of Israel used both ways to change the foretelling about the teachings of the Heavenly Scriptures and the last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). Due to destruction of Torah, some commandments of God Almighty had been disappeared or lost, then which commands remained in existence, those were changed by these people for the sake of their own convenience for the time being.

At the time of ascension of Islam, the scholars from the Children of Israel had ruined the remaining form of their religion. They used to change the commandments of those Celestial Scriptures according to their wishes. Which Scriptures had been lost; they had produced self written books with the names of those Heavenly Books. Often, after writing paraphrase and explanation, these were mixed up with the original text and they used to mark not any difference between the two. The scholar, priest or monk, who had the Heavenly Commandments, he used to reduce or increase it for the sake of any worldly temptation or earning greed.

The entire signs and foretelling regarding the birth and prophet-hood of the last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) did exist in their Holy Books. But when He (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) was born, they began to hide all such signs due to burning in the fire of their jealousy and began to narrate from some of them by perverting. So, God Almighty commanded, “Confound not truth with falsehood, and conceal not the truth knowingly. Due to your depravity, other people go astray also.”

Purpose of discussion regarding important incidents of the history in respect of the Children of Israel, which Holy Qur’an describes, is that the Jews might be informed about their evils on one side, and on the other hand, the Muslims should be caused to understand properly that there is no scope in the religion for these kinds of misguidance. So, we should meditate in these events, which our Lord, Allaah Almighty has revealed for us in Holy Qur’an, and the rising and wretchedness of the Children of Israel. We should not cause the badness and evils to grow in ourselves like this.

Invitation Of Holy Qur’aan

Invitation by Qur’an (L-71)

41a.  Wa  ‘aaminuu  bimaaa  ‘an-zaltu  musaddiqal-limaa  ma-‘a-kum  wa  laa  takuunuuu ‘aw-wala  kaafirim-bih.

41a.  And believe in that which I have revealed, confirming that which you possess already (of the Scripture), and be not first to disbelieve therein,

Maaa ‘an-zaltu – (which I have revealed), it signifies toward Holy Qur’an, which was revealed on the last Prophet (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). This is the Last Holy Word of God Almighty.

Maa  ma-‘a-kum – (which you have), it aims the Holy Scripture Torah, which was revealed on Prophet Moses (Peace be upon him). Its truth and religious rules are approved by Holy Qur’an

The Children of Israel are the people, who have been invited first of all to believe in Holy Qur’an. These people were the most famous out of the Believers of Heavenly Scripture. They used to live in the vicinity of Madinah. This principle was also in accord with such rule that goodness and its invitation should begin at first from the relatives and neighbors. In the previous verse, Allaah Almighty reminded to them His rewards and blessings upon them and commanded that they should fulfill their covenant, which they had made with Him.

The covenant which is being asked to be fulfilled is, believing in this Scripture “Holy Qur’an”, which has been revealed on the Last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). So they should believe in It and act upon Its Instructions. This Scripture, “Holy Qur’an” authenticates the Principles of their Holy Scripture also.

After this, it is being admonished that: lest you might be the first disbelievers of the Holy Qur’an from the people, who know the Religion of God Almighty. As much knowledge regarding acquaintance of the last Prophet Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and the Truth of Holy Qur’an you have, no other nation has so much. Therefore, it is expected from you that you will not become an example of infidelity and refusal for others. But as you are being invited first out of the learned men (the persons who believe in one of the four inspired Books of God), you will become cause of temptation for others by believing in it first, that they admit and believe in it by observing you. You must never be afraid that if you will believe in this last Holy Word and last Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), you will lose your worldly dignity, influence and impression. But contrary to it, you will see that all badness will perish due to blessings of Islam. This world will become comfortable for you and in the next life, on the Day of Resurrection; you will be avoided from punishment.
