156.  And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny-    
157a.  And because of their saying: We slew the Messsiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allaah’s messenger; they slew him not, nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them. And lo! Those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof.              156.  Wa  bi-kufrihim  wa  qawlihim  ‘alaa  Maryama  buhtaanan  ‘aziimaa.  
157a.  Wa  qawlihim  ‘innaa  qatal-nal-Masiiha  ‘Iisabna- Maryama  RasuulAllaah.  Wa  maa  qata-luuhu  wa  maa  salabuuhu  wa  laakin-  shubbiha  lahum.  Wa  ‘innal-laziinakh-talafuu  fiihi  la-fii  shakkim-minh.  
Shubbiha – (it appeared so), it has been derived from the word tashbiihun, origin of which is shabaahat. A word mushaabihat has also come out from the same origin.…

Then because of their breaking of their covenant, and their disbelieving in the Revelations of Allaah, and their slaying of the Prophets unjustly, and their saying: Our hearts are enfolded in covers. Nay, but Allaah set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so that they believe not  save a few-                         Fa-bimaa  naq-zihim-Miisaaqahum  wa  kufrihim-  bi-‘AayaatIllaahi  wa  qatli-himul-‘ambi-yaaa-‘a  bi-gayri  haqqinw-wa  qawlihim  quluubunaa  gulf.  Bal  taba-‘Allaahu  ‘alayhaa  bi- kufrihim  falaa  yu’-minuuna  ‘illaa  qaliilaa.              Lesson

And We caused the (Mount) Toor to tower above them at (the taking of) their covenant: and We bade them: Enter the gate, prostrate! And We bode them: Transgress not the Sabbath! And We took from them a firm covenant.                        Wa  Rafa’-naa  fawqahu-mut-Tuura  bi-Miisaaqihim  wa  qulnaa  lahumud-khulul-baaba  sujja-danw-wa  qulnaa  lahum  laa  ta’-duu  fis-Sabti  wa  ‘a-khaz-naa  minhum-Miisaaqan-galii-zaa.               
Sujja-dan – (prostrating), it is plural of saajid, which has come out from Sajdah i.e. to keep the forehead on earth before someone for His respect. Laa  ta’-duu – (Do not transgress), it is from ‘udwaan, which means ‘to cross the limit’. Galii-zun – this word is used for ‘weighty and corpulent’. Here it aims ‘strong and firm’ which is unbreakable.

The People of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven; they asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly; the storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even) after that, they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) had come unto them; even then We forgave them that! And those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them, unto them Allah will give their rewards. 150.  Lo! Those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, and seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers, and say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and seek to choose a way in between- 
151.  Such are disbelievers in truth; and for disbelievers We have prepared a shameful doom.                    150.  ‘Innal-laziina  yakfuruuna  BIllaahi  wa  RusuliHii  wa  yurii-duuna  ‘any-yufarriquu  bay-nAllaahi  wa  RusuliHii  wa  yaquu-luuna  nu’-minu  biba’-zinw-wa  nakfuru  biba’-zinw-wa  yurii-duuna  ‘any-yattakhizuu  bayna  zaalika  sabiilaa.

And Allah is ever Responsive, Aware.                 146.  ‘Illal-laziina  taabuu  wa  ‘aslahuu  wa’-tasamuu  BIllaahi  wa  ‘akh-lasuu  diinahum  LIllaahi  fa-‘ulaaa-‘ika  ma-‘al-Mu’-miniin.  Wa  saw-fa  yu’-TIllaa-hul-Mu’-miniina  ‘ajran  ‘azii-maa.

142.  Lo! The hypocrites seek to beguile Allah, but it is He Who beguileth them. When they stand up to worship they perform it languidly and to be seen of men, and are mindful of Allah but little.
143.  Swaying between this (and that), (belonging) neither to these nor to those. And he whom Allah causeth to go astray, thou (O Muhammad) will not find a way for him.
144.  O ye who believe! Choose not disbelievers (your) friends in place of believers. Do you desire that you should give Allah a clear warrant against you?
145.  Lo!
