(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)
16, And when We decide
to destroy a township We send commandment to its folk who live at ease, and
afterward they commit abomination therein, and so the Word (of doom) hath
effect for it, and We annihilate it with complete annihilation.
17. And how many
generations have We destroyed since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as Knower and
Beholder of the sins of His slaves.

Commentary
Mutrafiihaa – (the people of it who live
at ease), this word is “the Passive Participle” which is plural of “mutrafun”.
It has been derived from the word ‘itraafun. Its origin is tarafun,
which means “prosperity”. ‘Itraafun means “to make prosperous”. Mutrafun
means “one who has been made prosperous”.
Tadmiir – (to annihilate), origin of
this word is damar, which means “ruin, destruction”. Tadmiir
means “to destroy”. DammarNaa is past tense from the same.
In
this verse, previous contents have been explained that “as a fixed rule, We
send Our Messengers (peace be upon them) in the world. When the people of a
folk who live at ease, disobey the commandment, then all of them are
annihilated completely because of their disobedience. In this case many
townships were destroyed after Noah (peace be upon him).
Allah
Almighty is Sufficient to know and behold the sins of His slaves. In this
verse, there is a warning that first of all, rich and effectual persons among
the people go astray. Then other people also go with the stream. After that,
the ruin comes because of their evil days.
