been for Allah’s repelling some men by means of others, cloisters and churches
and oratorios and mosques, wherein the name of Allah is oft mentioned, would
assuredly have been pulled down. And verily Allah helpeth one who helpeth Him.
Lo! Allah is Strong, Almighty.

Commentary
Sawaami-‘u – (cloisters, monasteries of the
Christians), it is plural of sawma-‘atun. It means “abode of monks and
place of those who withdraw from worldly matters”.
Biya-‘un – this word is plural of bii-‘atun (a
church of the Christians).
Salawaatun – (oratorios, Jewish places of worship),
this word has been taken into Arabic from the word salawaataa of Hebrew
language.
It is commanded: All kinds of people live in the world i.e. the righteous
and the wrong, believers and disbelievers, people of good and bad livelihood
etc. If the wrongdoers are not prevented; they threaten and vex the righteous
people very much and let them not live in peace.
Therefore, as the Creator of this world has arranged for abode
and existence of the entire living beings, He has put in order also that the
rebellious people should not rebel too much. Otherwise if they got opportunity,
they would ruin all places of worship and abbeys, and let never live the
Believers of Allaah Almighty comfortably. The Churches of the Christians,
the Oratorios of the Jews and the Mosques of the Muslims were constructed by the
righteous people during their times, for the purpose that the Name of Allaah
Almighty should be mentioned often into them. So during every time, whenever
any mischievous person became more powerful, Allaah Almighty helped His
Believers. And He says: God shall help those good people assuredly who wish to
establish peace in the world by spreading His Religion. He is the Strongest and
the Most Powerful. It is not difficult for Him to give power so much to a
little group of the righteous people that they resist with success against a
great multitude of wicked people.
