Do the same! (L-3240)

رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ 5  لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْءَاخِرَ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ  6

5.  Rabbanaa  laa  taj-'alnaa  fitnatal-lillaziina kafaruu  wagfir  lanaa  Rabbanaa.  ‘Innaka  ‘An-tal- ‘Aziizul-Hakiim. 6.  Laqad  kaana  lakum  fiihim  ‘uswatun  hasanatul-liman-  kaana  yarjUllaaha  wal-Yawmal- ‘Aakhir.  Wa  many-yatawalla  fa-‘innAllaaha  Huwal- Ganiyyul-Hamiid. (Section 1/7)

5. Our Lord! Make us not a prey for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord! Lo! You, only You, are the Mighty, the Wise. 6. Verily you have in them a goodly pattern for everyone who looks to Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever may turn away, lo! still Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.

Circumstances of Abraham (peace be upon him) and his companions are being described: When they observed that the people of their folk adore the idols instead of Allaah Almighty, and ask them for boons, they cut off their relationship entirely from their folk and prayed in the Court of Allaah Almighty: Our Lord! In You we put our trust, and to You we turn repentant. Our Lord! Save us from the Idolaters, so that they may not torment us, and forgive our errors and omissions, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise without any doubt; and You know the reality of everyone.

Then it is commanded: O followers of Islam! There has certainly been for you in the circumstances of Abraham (peace be upon him) and his companions an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allaah Almighty and who desires betterment in the Last Day, that they should not have any connection with those who have enmity in their hearts due to the religion, until they accept the religious freedom and get ready to dwell altogether according to the principles of humanity. However, let them do as they wish who deny Allaah Almighty and the Day of Resurrection. Allaah Almighty does not care. Indeed, He is the Owner of all excellences, the Praiseworthy, whether anyone believes or disbelieves.

Religious dispute cannot be finished (L-3239)

كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ 4b

4b.  kafarnaa  bikum  wa   badaa  bay-nanaa  wa baynakumul-'adaawatu  wal-bagzaaa-'u  ‘abadan  hattaa  tu'-minuu  Billaahi  Wahdahuuu  ‘illaa  qawla  ‘Ibraa-hiima  li-‘abiihi  la-‘astag-firanna  laka  wa  maaa  ‘amliku  laka  minAllaahi  min-  shay.  Rabbanaa  'alay-ka  tawakkalnaa  wa  ‘ilayka  ‘anabnaa  wa  ‘ilay-kal- Masiir.

4b.  And there has arisen between us and you hostility and hate for ever until you believe in Allah only - save that which Abraham promised his father (when he said): I will ask forgiveness for you, though I own nothing for you from Allah - Our Lord! In You we put our trust, and unto You we turn repentant, and unto You is the journeying.

Abraham (peace be upon him) and his companions said clearly to the people of their folk: We hate you and your religion, and because you made the religion cause of dispute, so there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allaah Alone. However Abraham (peace be upon him) said to his father: I shall ask Allaah Almighty for your forgiveness, but it is not in my power that I may get something from Him for you; which may be useful for you. After saying this, he (peace be upon him) left his folk and emigrated for ever. Then he supplicated: Our Lord, Only You are our Protecting Friend and upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and at last to You is the destination of entire mankind.

There is an indication in this verse: As the disbelievers did not obey the Prophets (peace be upon them), they became their enemies including their believers too. They began to molest them and prevent the people from obeying them. It can never be bearable, because it strikes the freedom of human conscience.

The Way of Abraham

 

The Way of Abraham (L-3238)

لَن تَنفَعَكُمْ أَرْحَامُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ 3  قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ 4a

3.  Lan-  tanfa-'akum  ‘arhaamu-kum  wa  laaa  ‘awlaadukum.  Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  Yafsilu  baynakum.  Wallaahu  bimaa  ta'-maluuna  Basiir. 4a.  Qad  kaanat  lakum  ‘uswatun  hasa-natun-  fiii  ‘Ibraa-hiima  wal-laziina  ma-[-'ahu.  ‘Iz  qaaluu  liqawmihim  ‘innaa  bura-'aaa-'u  minkum  wa  mimmaa  ta'-buduuna  min-  duuNillaahi,

3. Your ties of kindred and your children will avail you naught upon the Day of Resurrection. He will part you. Allah is Seer of what you do. 4a. There is a goodly pattern for you in Abraham and those with him, when they told their folk: Lo! We are guiltless of you and all that you worship beside Allah. We have done with you.

Since Hatib bin Balta’h made this excuse in his defense, “My wife and children have been living among the Qureish of Makkah so far. So I thought that if I shall show them own sympathy, in return they will guard members of my family, and I know that however you will overcome. There will be no loss if I inform them.”

It has been commanded in this verse: Never will your relatives or your children benefit you on the Day of Resurrection. Allaah Almighty will judge between you. He has been looking of what you do and it will be decided according to your deeds. They will be successful who obeyed the Commands of Allaah Almighty for His pleasure. You must follow the Way of Abraham (peace be upon him) and his companions in all matters. When he chose Islam as a religion for himself, then he said to the disbelievers clearly: Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allaah. We do not have any relationship with your gods as well as with you until you adore them.

Their enmity is not ordinary

 

Their enmity is not ordinary (L-3237)

تُسِرُّونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا۠ أَعْلَمُ بِمَآ أَخْفَيْتُمْ وَمَآ أَعْلَنتُمْ وَمَن يَفْعَلْهُ مِنكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ 1b  إِن يَثْقَفُوكُمْ يَكُونُوا۟ لَكُمْ أَعْدَآءً وَيَبْسُطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلسُّوٓءِ وَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ 2

1b.  tusirruuna  ‘ilayhim  bil-  mawaddati  wa  ‘ana  ‘a'-lamu  bimaaa  ‘akh-faytum  wa  maaa  ‘a'-lantum.  Wa  many-yaf-'alhu  minkum  faqad  zalla  Sawaaa-'as-Sabiil. 2.  ‘Iny-yas-qafuukum  yakuunuu  lakum  ‘a'-daaa-'anw-wa  yabsutuuu  ‘ilaykum  ‘ay-diyahum  wa  ‘al-sinata-hum  bissuuu-'i  wa  wadduu  law  takfuruun.

1b.  Do you show friendship unto them in secret, when I am Best Aware of what you hide and what you proclaim? And whosoever does it among you, he verily has strayed from the right way. 2. If they have the upper hand of you, they will be your foes, and will stretch out their hands and their tongues toward you with evil (intent), and they long for you to disbelieve.

It is commanded: You confide to them affection and consider that no one will know, whereas I am Most Knowing of what you have concealed and what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has; certainly strayed from the soundness of the way. Theirs is such condition that if suppose they gain dominance over you, they would be to you as enemies. Though when the enemy has accepted his defeat, then there must be no enmity or spite. And they extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve. They are in anger that why did you give up their old religion.

It is clearly obvious that the Muslims do not fight someone for the purpose of making the opposite; Muslims by force. They fight for establishing peace in the world and producing such environment, in which every individual must be independent for choosing the religion which one likes for oneself after meditating. And no one must compel any other for any particular religion. You cannot fight for spreading your religion.

Leaving friendship (L-3236)

Chapter “MUMTAHINAH” - (She that is to be examined) - 60

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

 (I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّى وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْحَقِّ يُخْرِجُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ رَبِّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ خَرَجْتُمْ جِهَٰدًا فِى سَبِيلِى وَٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِى 1a

1a.  Yaa-‘ayyuhallaziina  ‘aamanuu  laa  tattakhizuu  'aduw-wii  wa  'aduw-wakum  ‘awli-yaaa-'a  tulquuna  ‘ilayhim  bil-mawaddati  wa qad  kafaruu  bi-maa  jaaa-'akum  minal-Haqq. Yukhri-juunar-Rasuula  wa  ‘iyyaakum  ‘an  tu'-minuu  Billaahi  Rabbi-kum.  ‘In  kuntum  kharajtum  Jihaadan-  fii  Sabiilii  Wabtigaaa-'a  Marzaatii;

1a. O you who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do you give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which has come unto you, driving out the messenger and you because you believe in Allah, your Lord? If you have come forth to strive in My way and seeking My good pleasure, (show them not friendship).

Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) conveyed the Message of Islam to the people of Makkah, but they rejected and became enemies. These people were of the tribe Qureish, and he (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) belonged to highest family of the same tribe. They troubled the Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) so much that he along with his companions (May Allaah be pleased with them), who embraced Islam, were compelled to leave Makkah.

After that the war began among (the believers and the disbelievers) both of them, which was over on the Peace Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. The people of Qureish broke the Treaty after two years and the war began again. He (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) was desirous to escape from blood-shedding, and that the Muslims should reach suddenly and take Makkah in their possession. A man tried to inform the Qureish due to his personal advantages. His letter was caught, but the Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) forgave him.

Concerning the same it has been instructed: It is not suitable for the Muslims to support the enemies when you are at war. The enemy is not only of yours enemy but he is enemy of Allaah Almighty too, and foundation of his enmity is Religion. They compelled you and the Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) to leave their township because you had belief in Allaah Almighty.

It is commanded: Hence if you have come out for fighting in My Way and you desire My pleasure, then you must not take such people as allies during the period of war who are your enemies due to your Religion, because making the religion cause of war is mankind’s greatest crime. Therefore, you must not be their sympathizers until they come to Right Path.
