62a. They only are the
true Believers who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are with
him on some common errand, go not away until they have asked leave of him.
Lo! those who ask leave of thee, those are they who believe in Allah and His
Messenger.

Commentary
‘Amrin- jaami’ – (some
common errand, the work common; for doing), such works which are performed
collectively as consultation, preaching, instruction or trying and striving
etc.
After describing the etiquettes concerning coming in and going
out of houses, now the way of leaving the assemblies and gatherings, due to any
exigency, (which are brought together for the purpose of advice, consultation
or guidance etc), is being narrated. Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and
peace be upon him) used to call up the people by proclamation for such
assemblies which were set up to accomplish any necessary work or for
preparation of any important affair. When the people used to be united, then
they were asked and consulted that “how the problem (in front) should be
solved?”
It is obvious that leaving such gathering by any individual
without proper reason is entirely disagreeable. It has been instructed in this
verse: The people, who have admitted that they believe in Allaah
Almighty, it has become incumbent on them that they should obey the
commandments of Allaah Almighty and the Sayings of His Messenger (grace,
glory, blessing and peace be upon him). It is demand of their acceptance that,
“when the Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him) calls them
for any collective work, they should come at the spot without delay, and leave
not the assembly without permission, until the work is over”. As they become
unmannerly by leaving the assembly without permission, along with it, it is a
sign of disobedience also. The Believers are never disobedient. Belief is - acceptance
of obedience. Therefore, you should understand it well that only those are
Believers who do not leave the assembly without permission. This permission is
a token that they believe in Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace,
glory, blessing and peace be upon him).
