‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

146.  Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us –

147.  In gardens and water-springs –

148.  And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees –

149.  And ye hew out dwellings in the mountains, being skilful?

150.  Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

151.  And obey not the command of the prodigal –

152.  Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not.
146.  ‘Atutrakuuna  fii  maa  haa-hunaaa  ‘aaminiin.

147.  Fii  jannaatinw-wa  ‘uyuun.

150.  FattaqUllaaha  wa  ‘atii-‘uun.

151.  Wa  laa  tutii-‘uuu  ‘amral- musrifiin.

152.  ‘Allaziina  yufsiduuna  fil-‘arzi  wa  laa  yuslihuun.

Commentary

Haziimun – (soft, blossomed, swelled, matured which falls off by a little blow), this word is an adjective from hazam, which means “to disperse by breaking”.

Tal-‘un  haziimun – (such bunch of palm-tree which is heavy sheathed), it is sign of this matter that the fruit-tree will bear the fruit in abundance.

The tribe of Thamud also was very prosperous. The gardens of fruit, flowing water-springs, husbandry, clumps of palm-trees, even everything was in their possession. The people of ‘Aad were at home in the art of construction, but the people of Thamud were masters of stone-cutting. Those both tribes were intoxicated into their own tune.

Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) prevented them from useless works and said: Keep your duty to Allaah and obey me. You would be ruined if you disobeyed my Sayings. Don’t follow them who are haughty, because they spread corruption in the earth. They know marring only instead of correcting. Allaah Almighty has appointed me as a Prophet for your correction, so you should obey my Sayings.
