Aim To Examine The Believer And Hypocrite

LESSON # 450 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Aim To Examine The Believer And Hypocrite
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verses – 166 & 167a of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

166.  And that which befell you, on the day when the two armies met, was by permission of Allah; that He might know the true believers-

167b.  And that He might know the hypocrites, unto whom it was said: Come, fight in the Way of Allah, or defend yourselves.
166.  Wa  maaa ‘asaabakum  yawmal-taqal-jam-‘aani  fabi-‘iznillaahi  wa  li-ya’-lamal-Mu’-miniin.

167a.  Wa  liya’-lamal-laziina  naafaquu.  Wa  qiila  lahum  ta-‘aalaw  qaatiluu  fii  Sabiilillaahi  ‘a-wid-fa-‘uu.

Lesson

yawmal-taqal-jam-‘aani (on the day when the two armies met), it signifies towards the day of the Battle of ‘Uhud, when the Armies of Islam and Infidelity stood opposite and met each other face to face.

Allah Almighty is the Omnipotent. He has complete rule and jurisdiction over the entire creatures. Victory and defeat is only in His hand. When Muslim crusaders and Idolaters of Mecca met face to face on the day of the Battle of ‘Uhud and the Muslims faced accidental defeat, they were conquered because such situation arose due to their own act which was against the Will of Allah Almighty to bestow them complete superiority. What happened, that was by the order of Allah Almighty and the Muslims produced its cause themselves. Aim of it was that belief and purity of the Muslims might be known on one side and hypocrisy of the Hypocrites might be revealed on the other side, and the good might be separated completely from the bad.

Before starting of the battle, when Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy, the leader of Hypocrites began to return with his three hundred companions, he was asked, “Where do you want to run at the spot? Come, if you are true in your claim that you are true Muslims, then let us fight in the Way of Allah Almighty. Otherwise, at least, take part in stopping and repelling the enemy. That is to say, live together in the assemblage so that the enemies feel fear of abundance of our Army upon their heart. If you do not fight in the Way of Allah        , for the cause of Islam, then at least help us to stop the enemy for passion of your native land, service of your nation or safety of your wealth and children, because if the enemy gets victory then he will take revenge from all and will not leave anybody. Overall, notwithstanding it was tried to warn them and through excitement all the matters were illuminated. But the Hypocrites did not accept and vice of their hearts manifested.

Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy returned to Medina city with his companion hypocrites and the Muslims went ahead for the battle. The incident, which happened there, has already been discussed earlier. Reply of Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy against the entire advices will be described in the next lesson ‘Inshaa ‘Allaah.

Utterance Of Grievance Of The Mishap

LESSON # 449 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Utterance Of Grievance Of The Mishap
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verses – 165 of 200, Section –17 (Part First-Half Of – 4)

How is it so, when a disaster smote you, though ye had smitten (them with a disaster) twice (as great), that ye said: How is this? Say (unto them, O’ Muhammad): It is from yourselves. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.
‘Awa-  lammaaa  ‘asaabat-kum-musiibatun- qad  ‘asabtum-mislayhaa,  qultum  ‘annaa  haazaa.  Qul  huwa  min  ‘indi  ‘anfusikum.  ‘Innallaaha  ‘alaa  kulli  shay-‘in- Qadiir.

Lesson

The event of the Battle of ‘Uhud had been being described since long. It’s necessary detail was told. Then the error, which was committed by the Muslims, was stated. Afterwards they were forgiven. Allah Almighty forgave also those archers and they were recommended by Him too to be forgiven by the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). In this connection, manners and virtues of the Prophet of Allah, auspiciousness of his (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) existence and peculiarities were discussed. The Muslims were also told that coming into existence of this Messenger between you is biggest kindness of Allah Almighty upon you. You should know his (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) value and thank to Allah Almighty for this favor. Now story of the ‘Uhud is being discussed again.

It has been declared to the Muslims, “Do you wonder on the disaster and loss, which you suffered in the Battle of ‘Uhud  and ask that from where this disaster has come? You consider that you were Muslims; you came out to fight with the enemies of the truth in the Way of Allah. Allah Almighty had promised too for help, then why and from whither this calamity descended upon you? You would have thought before speaking that how much you suffered, double of it has been caused to suffer earlier by your enemies. Your seventy people were martyred in the Battle of ‘Uhud and became heirs of the Heaven. On the contrary, during the battle of Badr their seventy persons were slain and thrown into the Hell, in addition their seventy people became your prisoners, upon whom you had complete control. If you wanted, you could kill them. Then besides the Battle of Badr, their more than twenty men were slain also in the beginning of the Battle of ‘Uhud. If you have lost here then imagine there, they have faced disastrous defeat in the Battle of Badr , and in the Battle of ‘Uhud too, when you fought courageously, they lost all their wits, and ran away being senseless.

If you reflect then you became the reason of this trouble at your own.

·       Due to excitement, you persisted to fight coming outward from the city of Medina.

·       The archers disobeyed the Holy Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and left the Pass. Why are you surprise now? You became the reason yourselves of this disaster and defeat; otherwise, Allah Almighty is Able to do all things. If He wished, He would not let you put in this trial. No doubt, He has the perfect Power of Influence.

Talents Of The Messenger Of Allah

LESSON # 448 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Talents Of The Messenger Of Allah
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verses – 164 of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

Allah verily hath shown grace to the believers by sending unto them a Messenger of their own who reciteth unto them His Revelations, and causeth them to grow, and teacheth them the Scripture and Wisdom; although before (he came to them) they were in flagrant error.
Laqad  mannallaahu  ‘alal-Mu’-miniina  ‘iz  ba-‘asa  fiihim  Rasuulam-min  ‘anfusihim  yatluu  ‘alayhim  ‘Aayaatihii  wa  yuzakkiihim  wa  yu-‘allimu-humul-Kitaaba  wal-Hikmah.  Wa  ‘in-kaanuu  min-  qablu  lafii  zalaalim-mubiin.

Lesson

Manna{(He) did acts of kindness}, it is only one likeness in the Holy Qur’an, which Allah Almighty has spoken about His favor conferred on His servants. It is greatest kindness of Allah Almighty upon the humankind that He sent a man like other men as His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). It is easy for the human beings to sit near him, to talk with him, to understand the Word of Allah Almighty from him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and to reap the benefits of each type of fortunes. The people know very well the morality, honesty, trust, sincerity, purity, mercy and circumstances of this Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). When they observe the miracles appearing from the person, who belongs to their own tribe and nation, it becomes easy for them to believe in him. Even though any demon or Angel (peace be upon him) had come as messenger, seeing his miracles, the people could pretend that he did not belong to their class (mankind). Therefore, his morality and deeds were not follow-able for them. So, Allah Almighty sent a human being as His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), who has good moral character, is merciful, mild and affectionate, from whom they can get bounty frankly. Allah Almighty has bestowed four basic excellences, which have already been described in Surah Baqarah (The Cow):

1.    The Messenger (most gracious) recites Revelations of Allah Almighty and causes to hear the people, apparent meanings of which (Revelations) were able to be understood very easily by the people of Arab as the Arabic was their own language.

2.    He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) purifies the people from sins, evils, idol-worship and polytheism. Removing their dirt, he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) cleanses their hearts.

3.    He teaches the Scripture of Allah Almighty. Where it seems difficult to understand by the people, he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) removes the doubts by clearing its meanings.

4.    He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) teaches the knowledge of Wisdom to the people, to reach the bottom, explains the secrets, signs and deep matters of the Holy Qur’an.

The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) of Allah Almighty formed the Arab nation as spiritual guide and master of the entire world with his love and teaching, which had been drowned in ignorance and astray, which had no perfection or excellence of the world.

Dignity Of The Prophet (peace be upon him)

LESSON # 447 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Dignity Of The Prophet (peace be upon him)
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verses – 161 to 163 of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

161.  It is not for any Prophet to deceive (mankind). And whoso deceiveth will bring what he embezzled with him on the Day of Resurrection. Then every soul will be paid in full what it hath earned; and they will not be wronged.

162.  Is one who followeth the pleasure of Allah as one who hath earned condemnation from Allah, and whose habitation is the Fire. And a hapless journey’s end?

163.  They are (in different) degrees (of grace and reprobation) with Allah. And Allah is Seer of what they do.
161.  Wa  maa  kaana  li-nabiyyin  ‘any-yagull.  Wa  many-yaglul  ya’-ti  bimaa  galla  Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  Summa  tuwaf-faa  kullu  nafsim-maa  kasabat  wa  hum  laa  yuzlamuun.

162.  ‘Afa-manittaba-‘a  Rizwaanal-laahi  kamam-baaa-‘a  bisakhatim-  minallaahi  wa  ma’-waahu  Jahannam.  Wa  bi’-sal-masiir.

163.  Hum  darajaatun  ‘indal-laah.  Wallaahu  Basiirum-  bi-maa  ya’-maluun.

Lesson

maa  kaana  li-nabiyyin  ‘any-yagulla{It is not for any Prophet to deceive (mankind)}. This sentence can be explained in many forms:

·       First of all, “the persons, who committed a mistake in the Battle of ‘Uhud, should have faith that while the most gracious Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) have forgiven them, then now his heart has been settled from their side. Since that, there is no difference between the heart (mind) and tongue of the Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). That becomes public which they have in their hearts.

·       Secondly, the Messengers (peace be upon them) use to conceal nothing from their Ummah (nation), whether that is Revelation from Allah Almighty, or matters of truth and just or booty or something else. So, one should not bring any such false thought about the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

In the second verse of this lesson, Allah Almighty declared the difference between a Prophet and non-prophet by means of an obvious likeness. Allah Almighty asks, “Is the Prophet, who follows the pleasure of Allah in each condition and wishes from others to follow His pleasure also, can he be as someone who has earned condemnation from Allah, and whose habitation is the Fire? And a hapless journey’s end”? It can never be so.

Actually a Prophet (peace be upon him) and entire other creation is not equal. The Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) cannot do the base and contemptible deeds like the avarice and the greed. Allah Almighty knows, “Who deserves any degree and is entitled of which degree”? He is Seer of what they do. Can He bestow the degree of prophet-hood to such mean nature persons? Never.

In Allah Let Believers Put Their Trust

LESSON # 446 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
In Allah Let Believers Put Their Trust
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 160 of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

If Allah is your helper none can overcome you, and if He withdraw His help from you, who is there who can help you after Him? In Allah let believers put their trust.
‘Iny-yansur-kumullaahu  falaa  gaaliba  lakum.  Wa  ‘iny-yakh-zulkum  faman  zallazii  yan-surukum-mim-  ba’-dih.  Wa  ‘alallaahi  falyata-wakkalil-Mu’-minuun.

Lesson

The Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was commanded in the previous verse, “Put thy trust in Allah”. Now it is being described in this verse, “Trustworthy is only Allah, Who is the Mighty, the Overcoming”.

Which error was committed by the Muslims during the Battle of ‘Uhud, that was forgiven by Allah Almighty, as well as He also recommended to let them forgiven too by the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). After that, they are being advised, “O Believers! Do not be taken in deception of others; do not fall into the trap of Infidels and Hypocrites, do not impress your false and astray imaginations upon your minds, but trust in Allah Almighty. If Allah is your helper, none can overcome you as you have observed during the Battle of Badr that the Idolaters were more than three fold from you. You did not have much arms and war equipment comparing to them. But Allah Almighty helped you and fortunately you won the non-ordinary war in un-expecting circumstances.

It has been described many times ago that victory and prevalence neither depends on number of Army personnel, nor on abundance of war equipment, but its necessary condition is strong and firm belief and faith in Allah Almighty, most of all the personal Bounty and Mercy of Allah Almighty. Those soldiers, who love their Belief most of their lives and all worldly valuables, they do not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for Its superiority. Their arms become manifold powerful and stable in their intentions more than usual. An Infidel or Idolater soldier, who fights only for worldly goods, he knows on no account to sacrifice his life. Where ever he felt danger for his life, ran away leaving every thing. Such people are coward and weak. They do not have cease of mind and strength of their arms ends. Whether they are in majority, (have much quantity of fighters), they would be like a flock of the sheep. It is duty of the Believers that they should keep complete trust in Allah Almighty, endeavor and try their best, entrust their matters and make over the result to Allah Almighty.

God Loves Them Who Trust In Him

LESSON # 445 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
God Loves Them Who Trust In Him
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 159 of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

159.  It is by the Mercy of Allah that thou are lenient with them (O Muhammad), for if thou have been stern and fierce of heart they would have dispersed from round about thee. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs, so when thou art resolved, then put thy trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loveth those who put their trust (in Him).
159.  Fa-bimaa  Rahmatim-minallaahi  linta  lahum. Wa law  kunta  fazzan  galiizal-qalbi  lan-fazzuu  min  haw-lik. Fa’-fu  ‘anhum  wastagfir  lahum  wa  shaawirhum  fil-‘amr. Fa-‘izaa  ‘azamta  fata-wakkal  ‘alallaah. ‘Innallaaha  yuhibbul-Mutawakkiliin.

Lesson

There was a great negligence from the side of Muslims in the battle of ‘Uhud. So, perhaps Holy Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) would be angry in his heart and he would have intended that he would leave consulting with the Muslims in future. Therefore, Allah Almighty recommended the Muslims in a light style. At first, He declared that they were forgiven, because anger and grief of Holy Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is only for Allah Almighty. Then He commanded, “It is a great blessing of Allah Almighty that he made his Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) so much civil, polite and lenient. If Holy Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) would have been stern and fierce of heart, they would have dispersed from round about him. It would not be sure that what behavior he would have adopted in the conduct of affairs. This nation might not remain assembled around him. If he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) would have called to account severely then they could not come even near due to shame and repentance. In such a manner, they would have remained deprived from a great goodness and blessing, and the Unity of Islamic nation would have shattered.

Holy Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him) ignores their mistakes for their correction. Allah Almighty guides, “Although, Allah Almighty has forgiven them now however, you should ask me for their forgiveness for more satisfaction of their hearts. Consult with them for the conduct of necessary affairs. After consultation, when a matter is finalized and Intended solemnly then all of you should set up on it with perfect trust in Allah almighty because Allah Almighty loves those people, who put their trust in Him.

Hadrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) asked the Holy Prophet Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), “O Messenger of Allah! The matter, which we do not find in the Holy Qur’an and your traditions, which method should we adopt for that?” Holy Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) replied, “consult with only those, who are wise and worshippers of Allah Almighty and do not follow the opinion of anyone else”. Value of mutual consultation has been disclosed from this verse and Hadith.

God Gives Life and Causes Death

LESSON # 444 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
God Gives Life and Causes Death
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 156b, 157 & 158 of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

156b.  And Allah giveth life and causeth death. And Allah is Seer of what ye do.

157.  And if ye are slain in Allah’s Way or die, surely pardon from Allah and mercy are better than all that they amass.

158.  And if you die or are slain, when unto Allah ye are gathered?
156b.  Wallaahu  yuhyii  wa  yumiit.  Wallaahu  bimaa  ta’-maluuna  Basiir.

157.  Wa  la-‘in-  qutiltum  fii  Sabiilillaahi  ‘aw  muttum  la-magfiratum-minallaahi  wa  rahmatun  khayrum-mimmaa  yaj-ma-‘uun.

158.  Wa  la-‘im-muttum  ‘aw  qutiltum  la-‘ilallaahi  tuhsha-ruun.

Lesson

It has been answered about the presumption of the Hypocrites that If they (the Muslims) had been (here) with us they would not have died or been killed. Allah Almighty commands, “To kill and to bring to life is in my power of choice. None can interfere in it. When and wherever I want, I cause death of the humankind. There are many such people who remain in journey during their entire life, they attend fights, battles and do crusades in the Way of Allah Almighty, but they die at home. And there are many such people who just stay at their homes and when their death approaches, they leave their homes with any pretense and they are killed or slain there, where Allah Almighty wished. No matter how many plans and arrangements a man makes, neither he can delay these things, nor can he change. However, these sayings of the Hypocrites are absolutely redundant and useless that if they had remained at their homes, they would never have died.

Allah Almighty knows the secrets of the hearts and intentions of entire human beings. He observes whatever they do. He knows that, to which path the Hypocrites and Infidels are leading and to what extent the Muslims avoid to obey their sayings. Allah Almighty will grant rewards to everyone in accord with his/her deeds. He says, “If you are slain in Allah’s Way or die, your sins will be forgiven and blessings will be bestowed upon you. To get which thing, the Hypocrites and Infidels tried their best to escape from death, accepting death in the Way of Allah Almighty and getting remuneration in its return is much better than that thing. If you people will not come out for a Crusade in the Way of Allah Almighty and suppose, you are saved for some time, then will you never die or will not be killed?  You have to die in each condition. Then you all will assemble in the Court of Allah Almighty. At that time, you will know that the lucky persons, who died or were slain in the Way of Allah Almighty, how much blessings of Allah Almighty are sent upon them, before which worldly earnings of the Infidels have no value and the people who died at the infidelity, in which wrath they are involved.

Deception By the Hypocrites

LESSON # 443 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Deception By the Hypocrites
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 156a of 200, Section –17 (Part – 4)

O ye who believe! Be not as those who disbelieved and said of their brethren who went abroad in the land or were fighting in the field: If they had been (here) with us they would not have died or been killed; that Allah may make it anguish in their hearts.
Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  laa  takuunuu  kallaziina  kafaruu  wa  qaaluu  li-‘ikhwaa-nihim  ‘izaa  zarabuu  fil-‘arzi  ‘aw  kaanuu  Guz-zal-law  kaanuu  ‘indanaa  maa  maatuu  wa  maa  qutiluu. Li-yaj-‘alallaahu  zaalika  hasratan-  fii  quluubihim.

Lesson

The Muslims have been advised that they should not place such absurd thoughts in their hearts like Hypocrites, “If we had been in our houses then we would not have been died or killed”. Bear in mind always that place and time of death is fixed since eternity. Neither it can be changed, not it can be delayed.

‘ikhwaa-nihim  -  (the Hypocrites), they were apparently Muslims. Therefore, they called the Muslims as their brethren here. In addition, because they have used these words in the style of well wishing, so the word ’ikh-waan is used in this verse. They said, “Our Muslim brothers died without any purpose going abroad, if they had been with us in their houses, then why would they have been killed”?

The Hypocrites had aim that grief and sorrow should be produced in the hearts of Muslims that, “Really we did wrong as we went abroad from our houses without thinking and plunged in to the war. If we would have acted upon the advice of Hypocrites and remained in our houses, then we would not have faced the troublesome.”

Although the Jews tried their best to produce sorrow and grief in the hearts of Muslims and used such words from their mouths, but the Muslims were not too much week that they would be taken in their words. On the contrary, due to such absurd talks, their secret was betrayed and their badness of intention manifested upon the Muslims.

Li-yaj-‘alallaahu  zaalika  hasratan-  fii  quluubihim – (that Allah may make it anguish in their hearts). Some commentators of Holy Qur’an have explained its meanings in such a manner that Allah Almighty released such words from the tongues and hearts of the Hypocrites, so that they would be left burning in the fire of that sorrow and grief, and they remain grieving until the Hereafter. Other grief they had that, “Alas! The Muslims did not turn like us, they did not listen to us but some of them were martyred and remaining returned with victory. Today in addition, much can be learnt from the incidents of the day of the Battle of ‘Uhud. Therefore, a field of battle between faith and hypocrisy, right and wrong will remain present always.

Allah Might Try What Is In Your Breasts

LESSON # 442 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Allah Might Try What Is In Your Breasts
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 154d & 155 of 200, Section –16 (Part – 4)

154d.  Say: Even though ye had been in your houses, those appointed to be slain would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie. All this hath been in order that Allah might try what is in your breasts and prove what is in your hearts. And Allah is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men).

155.  Lo! those of you who turned back on the day when the two hosts met, Satan alone it was who caused them to backslide, because of some of that which they have earned. And now Allah hath already forgiven them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Clement.
154d.  Qul-law  kuntum  fii  buyuutikum  labarazal-laziina  kutiba  ‘alay-himul-qatlu – ‘ilaa  mazaaji-‘ihim.  Wa  li-yabtali-yallaahu  maa  fii  suduurikum  wa  li-yumahhisa  maa  fii  quluubikum.  Wallaahu  ‘
Alii-mum-  bizaatis-suduur.

155.  ‘Innallaziina  ta-wallaw  minkum  Yawmal-taqal-jam-‘aani,  ‘innamas-tazallahumush-Shaytaanu  bi-ba’-zi  maa  kasabuu.  Wa  laqad  ‘afallaahu  ‘an-hum.  ‘Innallaaha  Gafuurun  Haliim.

Lesson

It has been advised to the Hypocrites in this verse, “It is useless to cry over spilt milk, there is no gain of reproach and slandering, grief and sorrow. Allah Almighty has predestinated every person’s place, cause and time of death from the beginning, which cannot get out of the way. Even though you had been in your houses and supposing your advice had been accepted, even then those persons, who were appointed to be slain in the camping ground of ‘Uhud, they would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie, somehow coming out from their houses. It is Kindness of Allah Almighty that the people, who were killed in the Battle, they were martyred, the death of braves in the Way of Allah Almighty. It is not the situation to grieve and sorrow at this time”.

Then it has been declared that the purpose of this Battle was ‘to try the Believers and the Hypocrites so that the difference between the both may be revealed, pure and false may become separate, sincere Muslims get remuneration of victory and their hearts may be purified from thoughts, inside of the Hypocrites be opened and their hypocrisy become public. As ability of another goodness increases from a goodness, likewise Satan gets opportunity from a sin or an evil to excite the human being for other sins or evils. The devil trembled their feet in the Battle of ‘Uhud but Allah Almighty was Bountiful upon the Muslims and He saved them from miserable defeat.

Thought Of Hypocrites

LESSON # 441 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Thought Of Hypocrites
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 154c of 200, Section –16 (Part – 4)

They hide within themselves (a thought) which they reveal not unto thee, saying: Had we had any part in the cause we should not have been slain here.
Yukhfuuna  fiii  ‘anfusihim  -maa  laa  yub-duuna  lak.  Yaquuluuna  law  kaana  lanaa  minal-‘amri  shay-‘um-maa  qutilnaa  haa-hunaa.

Lesson

It is being told continuously that the Muslims suffered a temporary defeat, extreme distress and anxiety after getting victory in the Battle of ‘Uhud due to fault of the archers. The venturesome Muslims remained in the battlefield and put a bold front, but the coward Hypocrites ran away leaving behind the battlefield. They began to say after this incident for removing their disgrace, “Such was the Will of Allah, what is our authority in this matter”? They aimed actually from this saying, “Our counsel was not complied in connection with the battle. We advised the Messenger of Allah (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that the enemies should be encountered remaining in the city, but he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) went out of the Medina for war to carry out the instructions of the boiling young men. If we had some power and we would not be ignored then the Muslims would not have to get so much loss”.

maa  qutilnaa  haa-hunaa(then we should not have been slain here), the Hypocrites determined the slaughter of Ansaar (real inhabitants of Medina) as slaughter of their own. It can also be meant that ‘why so much people should have been slain, if the victory and superiority were to be in accord with the Sayings of Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and why this misfortune would have fallen upon us?’ It is evident from the word haa-hunaa (here) that the Hypocrites used these words in Medina, because Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy had returned to Medina with his companions before starting of the Battle. It has come to notice from some historians that a Hypocrite had used these words in the battlefield. It can be so that some Hypocrites would not have been returned due to some advisability.

Although it was opinion of the Messenger of Allah (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) also that the battle should be fought staying in Medina as well as it was advice of the Hypocrites, but maximum young companions judged that they should fight going out from the City. Allah’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) wore the chain armor for this purpose. In this form, the Hypocrites had no any right to bring their men back from the Army of Islam. Entire decisions are in the Power of Allah Almighty. He gives victory if He wishes and gives defeat whenever He desires. It does not differ to fight with the enemy remaining in the city or going out of it.

Wrongly Thoughts

LESSON # 440 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Wrongly Thoughts
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse – 154b of 200, Section –16 (Part – 4)

While (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah.
Wa  taaa-‘ifatun-  qad  ‘ahammat-hum  ‘anfusuhum  yazunnuuna  billaahi  gayral-haqqi  zannal-jaahiliyyah.  Yaquuluuna  hal-lanaa  minal-‘amri  min-shay’.  Qul  ‘innal-‘amra  kullahuu  lillaahi.

Lesson

Circumstances of coward and spiritless Hypocrites are being described in this verse, who neither used to care for Islam, nor of the Gracious Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), but they used to hold themselves most dear. They were absorbed in the thought, “how can we save ourselves, lest Army of the Infidels would attack us again”. How could slumber or sleep did it overcome them in this worry?

Sincere Muslims did not run away from the battlefield even after observing the danger and remained steady and staying with Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). To remove their fatigue and tiredness, Allah Almighty prevailed slumber upon them. It produced peace and satisfaction in their hearts. Being refreshed they again stood still against the enemies.

There was pretense in the hearts of Hypocrites. They used to keep their lives dearer than Belief and Islam. They wished to save only their own lives. How slumber could prevail them while false thoughts had encircled their hearts. They said, “Where promises of Allah Almighty have gone? Where is Divine help and victory now? It seems that Islam is near to end now. Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and the Muslims will not be able to go back to their homes now. As it has been described at another place, “Bal  zanantum  ‘allany-yanqali-bar-Rasuulu  wal-Mu’-minuuna  ‘ilaaa  ‘ahliihim  ‘abadaa (Nay, but ye deemed that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their own folks) - Surah: Fat-h (Victory) (section -2).

The Hypocrites used to say, “Nothing is in our control”. Although, hypocrites were true apparently saying such words, really nothing is in the control of human being. Everything is in the control of Allah Almighty. If He wishes to make something, He may do so and if He wishes to destroy then it is easy for Him to destroy. He can allow one to prevail over others or conquered, either make someone ruler or under control. But the hypocrites were considering something else as its meanings.

al-jaahiliyyah- (like the ignorant) from this word, the life before Islam is also inferred, because at that time, the Arabs neither had awareness of the religion, nor they knew the world. They were entirely ignorant and ill mannered.
