Commentary
After observing natural boldness and bravery of Messenger Moses
(peace be upon him), which is bestowed by Allaah Almighty to Prophets
(peace be upon them), Pharaoh said being wonderstruck: You were brought up and
became young at our home and we used to love you. Due to our grace and favor
you acquired comfort and pleasure of life. After that; you killed a man of our
folk and ran away. Neither you did think that we are your patron and nor
regarded the difference between our folk and your folk.
In its reply, at first Moses (peace be upon him) said: I did not
give him a blow of fist intentionally to kill him. He died by chance by only
one fist. It was committed by me without intention. But you have kept the
Children of Israel enslaved since long and take service from them forcibly. You
kill their boys and have been doing this all intentionally, purposely and being
powerful. Does it suit you in such condition that you are boasting of favors
that you brought me up? It was the result of your general injustice and
oppression that my mother dropped me in a box and caused to flow it in the
river due to fear that you would order to kill me also just like other boys of
the Children of Israel. And I reached your palace by floating in the river
water. Your wife held me dear and you permitted for nourishing me unwillingly. Otherwise
I would have also been slain certainly like other boys of the Children of
Israel. Therefore your showing a favor of bringing me up is not your kindness,
but you were compelled to do so. Contrary to this, your tyrannies upon the
Children of Israel are with your intention, and assuredly you deserve reproach
for it.
