Commentary

Before this, it was commanded to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that after causing to know the Revelations of Holy Qur’aan, he should say to the people: Whatsoever I have been causing to hear you, it is such clear Truth which has been sent for you from your Lord.

He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) explained the entire Revelations before the people, but their unintelligence and perversity did not let them understand the actual matter. From it; He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was grieved. He was sorrowful due to their obstinacy, but it is possible that He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) would have thought: Whether would have I not fallen short in causing to know them? May be that such opposite behavior of theirs is for the reason that I could not produce the Truth before them as it required. For the mankind, this thought is very painful if the perception of so much shortness and incorrectness is born in his heart and he begin to think: The work which is not running; I am liable to come upon this blame. At such occasion, encouragement by a Superior Officer is of use. In this verse, Allah Almighty makes His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) content that: You have performed your duty. Now if they do not understand, let them do what they wish.

It is commanded: You should not be sorrowful that why do they not understand. Your duty is only to follow that which is inspired in you and obey the commands which are revealed. Continue explaining the Holy Qur’aan before the people by your words and deeds. Those who obey you, are fortunate, and those who do not attend to you but arm against you with their words and deeds, who begin to trouble and hurt you, for it; you should forbear and instruct your companions also to be patient; and wait for the Judgment of Allah Almighty. He has complete knowledge of their movements.
