Commentary
It is commanded: You should make mention of Ishmael (peace be
upon him) in the Book. He was very virtuous and true to his promise. He did
never break the promise; made with any person, although he had to bear much
trouble for it. Similitude of his determination and firmness is obvious that he
got ready to sacrifice his life on the command of Allah Almighty and saying of his
father. God Almighty saved him and sent down a ram for sacrificing at his
place. He made him His Prophet and appointed Messenger also to convey the
Message of His guidance unto the people. Ishmael (peace be upon him) used to enjoin upon the members of his family for
offering prayer and almsgiving, so that other people should do the same work
too in their imitation. He (peace be upon him) was acceptable in the sight of Allah Almighty.
After that, there is mention of Idris
(peace be upon him) that he was honest and rightful servant and
Prophet of Allah Almighty. He gave him very high grade in arts and sciences. Rank
of Idris (peace be upon him) is very higher in this world and in the
Hereafter. His time is between the times of Adam and Noah (peace be upon them).
