Exalted is He who created all pairs

Chapter “YAA-SIIIN” - (YASIN) – 36

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

36.  Glory be to Him Who created pairs, of that which the earth groweth all things, and of themselves, and of that which they know not!

37.  And a Token unto them is Night. We strip it of the Day, and lo! they are in darkness-

38.  And the sun runneth on unto its appointed resting-place. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise.

37.  Wa  ‘Aayatul-lahumul-Laylu;  Naslakhu  minhun-Nahaara  fa-‘izaa  hum-muzlimuun.

38.  Wash-Shamsu  tajrii  li-mustaqar-rillahaa.  Zaalika  taqdiirul-  ‘Aziizil-‘Aliim.

Commentary

Naslakhu – (We remove from it), origin of this word is salakha, actual meaning of which is “to take the skin off from the body”. Then the people began to use it for “dragging away the lid of everything”. It aims that the darkness is the actual thing. When the light of the day spreads over the darkness of the night then there is illumination.

‘Azwaajun – (pairs), this word is plural of zawjun. Every that thing is called zawj which is similar to or opposite to the other.

It is commanded: Allaah Almighty is such Unmatched Who created the things similar to or quite opposite to the others. Accordingly, as the things produced from the land are similar in form and taste, like this those are different from one another in form and taste too, for example, citrus and non-citrus, black and white etc. Just like this, there are some human beings whose manners are similar to others, but some are those whose manners are opposite to others as –men and women, black people and white people etc. The night is also a Sign of His Divine Power, over which the day spreads and the light spreads all around. When the day is removed from the night, then the darkness spreads everywhere. You would have observed that the sun runs on unto its appointed resting-place. Allaah Almighty, Who is the Exalted in Might and the Knowing, has determined all such things at their proper places.
