Questioning The Messenger

LESSON # 112 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Questioning The Messenger
(glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him)
Verse –108 of 286, Section – 13
Or would ye question your Messenger as Moses was questioned aforetime? He who chooseth disbelief instead of faith, verily be hath gone astray from a right path.
‘Am turiiduuna  ‘an- tas-‘aluu  Rasuulakum  kamaa  su- ‘ila  Muusaa  min-  qabl.   Wa  many-‘yatabaddalil-kufra  bil-‘iimaani  faqad zalla sawaaa-‘assabiil.
Lesson
We have studied about abrogation of the verses in the last lesson that The God Almighty ‘Such of His Revelation as He abrogates or causes to be forgotten, but He brings (in place) one better or the like thereof’. It is proved in the light of events/incidents and history that whenever any Heavenly Book was caused to be forgotten or abrogated then one better or the like thereof was revealed in place of it and the Servants of The God Almighty were not disappointed from the Guidance of Allah Almighty.

Now one famous matter is being illuminated in this verse that is the guidance about asking questions from the Messenger Merciful Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him). The children of Israel used to try the production of various sort of doubts in the hearts of Muslims about the Messenger of God Almighty (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) and The Holy Qur’an, and said them to ask replies from the Prophet of Allah Almighty (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) to clear their doubts. Actually they had aimed that if the Muslims do not accept their religion then they at the very least will become suspicious from their own religion and Islamic teachings. Some Muslims used to ask unreasonable questions from the Last Messenger (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) unknowing the conspiracy and plan of the children of Israel. The God Almighty prohibited them from this thing.

There is also an other purpose of prohibition to ask questions from the Prophet of God Almighty (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him). Due to questioning over and over it becomes cause in increasing the difficulties and restrictions over oneself by the human beings. Easy commands become difficult. In the matters in which a person had freedom, after the revelation of orders that person has been restricted. It all was happened with the children of Israel. For instance story of the Cow exists in front of us.

Abrogation Of The Verses

LESSON # 111 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Abrogation Of The Verses
Verse –106 & 107 of 286, Section – 13
106.  Such of Our Revelation as We abrogate or cause be forgotten, but We bring (in place) one better or the like thereof. Knowest thou not that Allah is Able to do all things?

107.  Knowest thou not that it is Allah unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. And ye have not, beside Allah, any guardian or helper?
106.  Maa nansakh min ‘aa-yatin ‘aw nunsihaa na’-ti bi-khayrim-minhaaa ‘aw mislihaa.  ‘Alam ta’-lam  ‘annallaaha ‘alaa kulli shay-‘in- Qadiir.

107.  ‘Alam ta’-lam  ‘annallaaha lahuu mulkus-samaawaati  wal-‘arz.  Wa maa lakum- min- duu-nillaahi  minw-waliyyinw-wa laa  nasiir.
Lesson
Maa nansakh min ‘aa-yatin – (Such of Our Revelation as We abrogate) there are two words considerable in this sentence:
·       ‘aa-yat (literal meanings are sign and token) and many things are aimed from it like miracles which have sign of the Power of God Almighty and prophet hood of the Prophet, Command and order of The Lord Almighty, and the verses of the Holy Qur’an (round signs) etc.

·       Nansakh (We abrogate) to order in place of the previous order which may be better than that or the like thereof. To finish the first order and bring (in place) one better or alike. As far as there is concern to change the miracle, in that case it is a common thing that the God Almighty may abrogate one miracle and may bring one better or alike to which He considers better according to the change of time. As far as there is concern about the other meanings, in it two additional matters come out: One is the verses of previous Heavenly Books and the second is the verses of Holy Qur’an itself. Abrogation of the previous Heavenly Books after revelation of the Holy Qur’an is then quite openly matter.

The signs of the verses of Holy Qur’an (round signs) have been applied later on. In the beginning these signs did not exist. So the question regarding abrogation of these signs does not grow. Moreover it seems the right saying, “Aim regarding abrogation of the verses is that the new Commands and Orders of God Almighty have been revealed in the Holy Qur’an in place of His previous Orders and Commands mentioned in His Old Heavenly Books Torah and Gospel), and these Commands abrogate the old Orders.

Religious Persecution Of The Infidels

LESSON # 110 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Religious Persecution Of The Infidels
Verse –105 of 286, Section – 13
Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture nor the idolaters love that there should be sent down unto you any good thing from your Lord. And Allah chooseth for His mercy whom He will. And Allah is of Infinite Bounty.
Maa  yawaddullaziina kafaruu min- ‘Ahlil-kitaabi  wa lal-Mushrikiina  ‘any-yunazzala  ‘alaykum-min  khayrim-mir-Rabbikum.  Wallaahu yakh-tassu  bi-rahmatihii many-ya-shaaa’.  Wallaahu  Zul-Fazlil-‘aziim.
Lesson
Allaziina kafaruu – (those who disbelieve, the Infidels). This word is derived from kafara. Literal meanings of kafara are ‘to hide’. In the phrase of Islam disbeliever of Allah Almighty and His Last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) is called Infidel

‘Ahlil-kitaabi - (The people of the Scripture) this phrase has been used many times in the Holy Qur’an. ‘Ahlil-kitaab is said to those people who have any revealed and heavenly Book. It is an other class besides the Believers and the Infidels. The most famous out of them are the children of Israel and Christians who have the Revealed Books (Torah and Gospel). Alas! These both classes went astray gradually from the teachings of these Books.

Al-Mushrikiina – (the idolaters) this word has come out from the word shirk which means partnership. The idolater is the person, who settles partners either in the Oneness of God Almighty or in His Virtues or in His Power and Commands. And he makes His partner worshipped in spite of One God.

Allah Almighty has commanded in this verse that all the Infidels, Idolaters and the people of the Scripture are filled with envy on the matter that why the God Almighty bestows blessings and favours over Muslims leaving them.

Then He said that He chooses for His favours to whom He wishes. So no body should become jealous over any other. From which nations the Prophet Hood had been snatched, that was not due to the avarice of God Almighty (I seek refuge in ALLAH) but this favour was forfeited from the children of Israel due to their own acts.

Misuse Of The Words

LESSON # 109 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Misuse Of The Words
Verse –104 of 286, Section – 13
O ye who believe, say not (unto the Prophet): “Listen to us” but say “Look upon us”, and be ye listeners. And for disbelievers is a painful doom.
Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aa-manuu  laa taquuluu  raa-‘inaa  wa quulunzurnaa  was-ma-‘uu.  Wa lil-Kaafiriina ‘azaabun  ‘aliim.
Lesson
Raa-‘inaa – (Listen to us, show us favour)

Unzurnaa – (Look upon us) this word has also the same meanings, “Listen to us, show us favour”. The children of Israel used to be present in the Conference of the Messenger of God Almighty Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), and listened to the advice and preaching. Whenever they could not listen to any speech and wished to ask again then they used to say raa-‘ina.

Listening from them the word raa-‘ina some times the Muslims also began to use this word. The God Almighty prevented them not to use this word. If they wish to say, they should use the word unzurnaa. In fact the children of Israel used to say this word raa-‘ina due to ill-will and joke. They intentionally used the word raa-‘ina as ra-‘iina, that means ‘our shepherd’ and in the Jewish language the word raa-‘ina is also used for the fool, blockhead, most foolish, stupid and idiot.

Allah Almighty prohibited the Muslims from use of this word (raa-‘ina) and commanded to replace it as unzurnaa, that means “Look upon us”. The aspect of joke or censure is not found in this word. Along with use of this word it has also been ordered to ‘be ye listeners’ (was-ma-‘uu) so that you would not have to ask again for repetition.

It is also learnt from the command of is-ma-‘uu that the sayings, advices and preaching of the Prophet of God Almighty Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) should be listened with meditation. So the persons who consider that only the Holy Qur’an is sufficient for guidance of the human beings, they should learn from this decision of Holy Qur’an itself and imagine that how much it has been pressed to listen and accept the Sayings, advice and preaching according to this verse and many other verses. It has also been mentioned in an other verse that decision of the Messenger of Allah (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) is the last and final decision for you in each matter. (Surah An-Nissa). “O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and those of you who are in authority; then if ye have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the Messenger if ye are (in truth) believers in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more seemly in the end”. (IV : 59)

At the end the God Almighty commands that the persons who are prepared to do insolence of the Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) calling Him with bad words and making fun of Him are the disbelievers and for disbelievers is a painful doom.

Badness Of The Black Magic

LESSON # 108 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Badness Of The Black Magic
Verse –102b & 103 of 286, Section – 13
Nor did they (the two angels) teach it to anyone till they had said: We are only a temptation, therefore disbelieve not (in the guidance of Allah). And from these two (angels) people learn that by which they cause division between man and his wife; but they injure thereby no-one save by Allah’s leave. And they learn that which harmeth them and profiteth them not. And surely they do know that he who trafficketh therein will have no (happy) portion in the Hereafter; and surely evil is the price for which they sell their souls, if they but knew.

103.  And if they had believed and kept away from evil, a recompense from Allah would certainly have been better, if they had only known.
Wa maa yu-‘all-imaani min ‘ahadin hatta ya-quulaaa ‘innamaa nahnu fitna-tun, falaa takfur.  Fayata-‘alla-muuna minhumaa maa yufar-riquuna bihii baynal-mar-‘i wa zawjih. Wa maa hum- bi-zaaar-riina bihii min ‘ahadin ‘illaa bi-‘iznil-laah. Wa yata-‘alla-muuna maa yazurruhum wa laa yanfa-‘uhum. Wa laqad ‘alimuu lama-nishtaraahu maa lahu fil ‘Aakhirati min kha-laaq. Wa labi’- sa maa sharaw bihiii ‘anfusa-hum. Law kaanuu ya’-lamuun.

103.  Wa law ‘annahum ‘aamanuu wattaqaw  lamasuubatum-min ‘indillaahi khayr. Law kaa-nuu ya’-lamuun.
Lesson
Yu-‘all-imaani - (they both taught) this word is from Ta’-liim. It means to teach. But here this word isn’t used in these meanings that the angels used to teach the magic to people. Moreover the meanings of Ta’-liim are to inform, to show and to tell here.

Fitna-tun-(disorder, badness, quarrel, test, examination, temptation) Here it is used in the meanings of test & examination only.

Some quarrelsome persons of Babel used to come near the Angels and said, “you prevent us from black magic and witchcraft but let we know about the magic. Which are the acts of magic on using them is infidelity? After replying them when the angels used to tell them about magic, its actions and words, then these evil-doers listened carefully and used it as art.

Allah Almighty commands also about this mischief that these people exercised the particular branch of magic with the help of which they produced quarrel and misunderstanding between husband and wife. Moreover it is the worst evil-doing creating misunderstanding between the two hearts, and specially creating fight between husband and wife.

Advice of Harut and Marut was to be enough that they used to tell themselves a test and prevent Jews from infidelity and evil. But they didn’t learn the lesson. They didn’t listen to their advice but used to act violently and evil-doing.

Although they used magic to harm others but Allah Almighty says that without His order they cannot harm anyone. Moreover they will harm themselves from it. They are going to mar their own future by doing these evil acts. It is possible that they get some temporary worldly benefits but at the end ((on the Doomsday they have no blessing.

Allah Almighty says that these people have sacrificed the advantages of the Day of Resurrection in exchange of worldly customary advantage. That is much harmful for them. If they would have adopted the right path instead of this way, believed on Allah and had fear of His agony, Allah would give them better reward surely.

Witchcraft

LESSON # 107 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Witchcraft
Verse –102a of 286, Section – 12
And they followed that which the devils falsely related during the kingdom of Solomon. Solomon disbelieved not; but the devils disbelieved, teaching mankind magic and that which was revealed to the two angels in Babel, Harut and Marut.
Wattaba-‘uu maatatlush-shayaa-tiinu ‘alaa mulki- Sulay-maan. Wa maa kafara Sulay-maanu wa laakinnash-shayaa-tii-na kafaruu  yu-‘allimuunan-naa-sas-sihr,  wa maaa ‘unzila  ‘alal-malakayni  bi-Baabila Haaruuta  wa  Marrut.
Lesson
Ash-shayaa-tiinu – (plural of Satan) those demons are also meant from this word who were subordinates of the Prophet Solomon (peace be upon Him) besides the devil, and they were violent and of evil spirit. The demons have been produced from the fire. They have wisdom and decency. This creature can not be seen by the human beings.

Some commentators have indicated about the ash-shayaa-tiin as persons of bad nature and addle mannered that used to take part in the rebellion against the Prophet Solomon (peace be upon Him) and accused Him falsely of various sorts. These devils were very at home in magic.

Sulay-maan – (Solomon) He was a very famous Prophet (peace be upon Him) out of the children of Israel, and He was a very powerful King of His era. Besides Syria and Palestine limitations of His Government had been spread up to Iraq in the east and up to Egypt in the West. His kingdom was of a great splendor and magnificent.

In this verse God Almighty has aimed towards other intolerant act of the children of Israel that these people except admitting the true revelation of Allah Almighty follow the magic, black magic and witchcraft. These magic and witchcrafts are those acts which the devils had spread during the times of the Prophet Solomon (peace be upon Him) these witchcrafts comprising on the infidel speeches, were achieved unlawfully and were used for bad purposes.

These persons used to do the acts of magic and infidelity themselves but betrothed towards the Prophet Solomon (peace be upon Him). They blamed Him that He teaches the magic. But the God Almighty proclaimed unaccountability of the Prophet Solomon through the Holy Qur’an, and told that these were entirely liars.

Al-malakayni -  (two Angels) God Almighty sent two Angels in Babel to prevent the people from using the magic and witchcraft. Their names were Harut and Marut. These Angels had to live between the human beings. So their faces, bodies, colors, habits and emotions were like the human beings.

Baabil – (Babel) it is old name of Iraq Arabia. Name of the Capital of the country was also Babel. This city was 60 Miles away from present city Baghdad towards south on the river bank of Frat. It was a big, developed and most fortunate city. Its agricultural area was irrigated by two famous rivers (Dajla and Frat). This country was also particularly famous due to magic, black magic, witchcrafts and other infernal practices.

As-sihr – (magic) in Arabic language as-sihr is also used for deception. It means that a thing with which the eyesight of the human being may be deceived. In it reality differs from the evident. Between magic and Miracle there is a great difference besides other things that in the miracle the condition is changed but with the magic reality does not change. Only the eyesight is deceived. The Jews used to learn and teach this knowledge for getting worldly bad advantages.

According to the Islamic Laws the magic is unlawful. Reason is clear that the Magicians use the sentences of infidelity, adopt unlawful methods and bring the magic in use for good and bad acts. How a Prophet and Angel (peace be upon Them) may do the works like this?

Opposing The Scripture Of Allah

LESSON # 106 HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Opposing The Scripture Of Allah
Verse –101 of 286, Section – 12
And when there cometh unto them a Messenger from Allah, confirming that which they possess, a party of those who have received the scripture fling the scripture of Allah behind their backs as if they knew not.
Wa lammaa jaaa-‘a hum Rasuulum-min ‘indillaahi mu-saddiqul-limaa ma-‘ahum nabaza fariiqum-minal-laziina   ‘uutul-kitaaba,  kitaaballaahi waraaa-‘a  zuhuurihim  ka-‘an-nahum laa ya’-lamuun.
Lesson
Rasuulun – (Messenger) the person carrying message. This word is used for all the Prophets (peace be upon Them). It is revealed from the way of narration of this verse that it signifies towards the last Messenger of Allah Almighty (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him). Religious commentators, research scholars and philosophers have also taken these meanings of the verse.

Ma-‘ahum – (they possess) it aims the Holy Book Torah, of which guidance the children of Israel did not admit. These persons did not believe also the last Messenger and Prophet Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), still vast signs and foretelling had been mentioned in that Holy Book (Torah). The Jewish Scholars tried their best to hide these foretelling and the common Jewish people opposed limitless the Islam and the Muslims still their salvation was connected with the faith of Islam.

Waraaa-‘a  zuhuurihim – (behind their backs) it is a proverb that means, “they used carelessness and opposed it practically”.

In this verse it is being told to the children of Israel that the Last Messenger (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) has not come to efface their religion but He (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) has come to refresh and provide it a new life. So not obeying Him (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) is like ruining entirely their religion by themselves digging its roots.

Besides all these speeches the children of Israel began opposing Islam publicly and which glad tidings about inspiration of the Last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) had been mentioned in Torah, and which signs and tokens were narrated, to hide them they changed the Torah and apparently became strangers. As though they didn’t know that support and authentication regarding the last Prophet (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) is present in it.
