Chapter BURUUJ” – (The Mentions of the Stars) - 85

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

1.  Was-Samaaa-'i  zaatil-BURUUJ.  2.  Wal-Yawmil-Maw-'uud.  3.  Wa  Shaahidinw-wa  Mash-huud.  4.  Qutila  ‘as-haabul-‘ukh-duud.  5.  ‘Annaari  zaatil-Waquud.  6.  ‘Iz  hum  'alayhaa  qu-'uud.  7.  Wa  hum  'alaa  maa  yaf-'aluuna  bil-Mu’-miniina  shuhuud.

1. By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,  2. And by the Promised Day.  3. And by the witness and that whereunto he bears testimony,  4. (Self-) destroyed were the owners of the ditch  5. Of the fuel-fed fire,  6. When they sat by it,  7. And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.

Zaatil-Buruuj – (that which holds mansions of the stars), it aims, “the sky which contains great stars”. Burj means – a separate portion of any high building, a mansion. Here it means such twelve portions of the sky, through which the sun passes during a year and passing period from every portion (Burj) is one month.

‘Al-Yawmil- Maw-'uud – (the Promised Day), it aims “the Day of Resurrection”.

Shaahid – (a Witness), it aims “the day of Friday” which comes every week. Mash-huud – (proved, attested, evinced, that whereunto he bears testimony), it aims, “the day of ‘Arfah, that is to say, 9th of the month of Zil-Hajj, when all Pilgrims gather for performing “Hajj” (Pilgrimage). By the oath of sky, the Day of Resurrection, Friday and the day of ‘Arfah, it is desired to remind that Allaah Almighty is the Owner of every place and every time. Therefore, His disobedient can never escape anywhere. So the Jewish King of Yemen and his followers, who caused to burn fire in a trench for throwing the Believing Christians into it, were ruined. They were enjoying by looking them burning in the fire and were very happy on the influence of their power. Previously those Believing Christians were Jews of Najraan, and they believed in Jesus (peace be upon him) on the invitation of a Christian Priest. Moreover, they used to admonish other people too: Reap advantage from the teachings of Jesus (peace be upon him) who was a Prophet and Messenger of Allaah Almighty. The Jews disbelieved in Jesus (peace be upon him) and had gone astray. Najraan was a territory of Yemen and under the jurisdiction of the Jewish King, named Zunawaas. Accordingly, he punished them who believed in Jesus (peace be upon him) due to their becoming Christians, for frightening common people, so that others should not change their religion.
