Difference in Divine Inspiration and Kashf

Chapter Kahf (The Cave) – 18

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِ فَٱرْتَدَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا 64

 فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَاوَعَلَّمْنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا 65

64.  He said: This is that which we have been seeking. So they retraced their steps again-

65.  Then found they one of Our slaves, unto whom We had given Mercy from Us, and had taught him knowledge from Our Presence.
64.  Qaala  zaalika  maa  kunnaa  nabgi  fartaddaa  ‘alaaa  ‘aa-saari-himaa  qasasaa.

65.  Fa-wajadaa  ‘Abdam-min  ‘ibaadiNaaa  ‘Aatay- Naahu  Rah-matam-min  ‘indiNaa  wa  ‘allam-Naahu  mil-ladunNaa  ‘Ilmaa.
        
Commentary

Nabgi – (we have been seeking), actually this word was nabgii, but the last “i” was removed for the reason of stopping. It has come out from bag-yun, which means “to seek, to search for”.

Qasasan – (to discover the track of, to trace), this word has passed in the beginning of Surah Yusuf (Joseph), there; it meant “to describe”. It also means “to search, to inquire”.

There was no way; constructed in the jungle and they {Moses (peace be upon him) and his young companion} had to reach back that place where they went to sleep near the rock. So they returned and searched the signs of their feet steps for escaping from long journey. When they arrived near the rock where they took some rest, then it is commanded: They found there a man – who was one of Our slaves, unto whom We had bestowed a specific portion of Our Mercy and taught him some knowledge from the Treasuries of Our Knowledge.

The commentators have explained with the correct documentary proofs that the name of that slave of God Almighty was “Khizar” (peace be upon him), who used to remain engaged every time wholeheartedly in the worship of Allah Almighty. And by the means of that Divine worship, his heart had been purified, due to which he (peace be upon him) used to see the consequences of the happenings before time. The means of the same knowledge is called “a divine inspiration” (kashf and ‘ilhaam). He (peace be upon him) often used to save the people from forthcoming misfortunes by means of the same knowledge. Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was Bearer of the Light of Prophet-hood, by which the knowledge of Shara’ (the Divine Way of Religion) is bestowed, which is sent down by means of Wahii (the Divine Revelation). Grade of Wahii is very higher than kashf and ‘ilhaam. God’s Religion depends on the same Wahii. Kkashf and ‘ilhaam are of inferior grade to the Wahii. Principles of the Religion do not depend on kashf and ‘ilhaam.
