Sailing of ships through the Sea

Chapter LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) - 31

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

31.  Hast thou not seen how the ships glide on the sea by Allah’s Grace, that He may show you of His Wonders? Lo! therein indeed are Portents for every steadfast, grateful (heart).

32.  And if a wave enshroudeth them like awnings, they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only. But when He bringeth them safe to land, only some of them compromise. And some denieth Our Signs save every traitor ingrate.
31.  ‘Alam  tara  ‘annal-fulka  tajrii  fil-bahri  bi-ni’-maTillaahi  liyuri-yakum-min  ‘AayaatiH.  ‘Inna  fii  zaalika  la-‘Aayaatilli-kulli  sabbaarin-  shakuur.

32.  Wa  ‘izaa  gashiya-hum-mawjun  kaz-zulali  da-‘a-wUllaaha  Mukhlisiina  lahud-Diin.  Falam-maa  Najjaahum  ‘ilal-barri  famin-hum-muqtasid.  Wa  maa  yajhadu  bi-‘AayaatiNaaa  ‘illaa  kullu  khat-taarin-  kafuur.

Commentary

‘Az-zulali – (the things which enshroud over heads, for example, clouds, mountain, thatched roof, sunshades etc.), this word is plural of zullatun which has been derived from zillun. Zillun means “shadow”.

Khat-taarun – (treacherous, traitor, deceiver), this word has come out from khatar, which means “to deceive”.

Muqtasidun – (those who are moderate in faith, temperate), this is the Subject from the word ‘iqtasaad, which has been derived from qasad.

It is commanded: You see that how the ships sail on the surface of the water of the Sea, transport and carry goods from one place to the other by the Grace of Allaah Almighty. Do you not see His Divine Power in it? There are Signs for knowing Allaah Almighty in it for them who are temperate and grateful. Moreover, when waves come over them like canopies, they begin to supplicate Allaah Almighty sincerely. But after reaching the coast of the sea, some of them remain moderate in their faith. However most of them reject the Signs of Allaah Almighty. Such people are treacherous and ungrateful.
