God's Coloring (L-163)

صِبغَةَ اللَّهِ ۖ وَمَن أَحسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ صِبغَةً ۖ وَنَحنُ لَهُ عابِدونَ138.  قُل أَتُحاجّونَنا فِي اللَّهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنا وَرَبُّكُم وَلَنا أَعمالُنا وَلَكُم أَعمالُكُم وَنَحنُ لَهُ مُخلِصونَ139.

138.  SibgatAllaah. Wa man ‘ahsanu minGodi sibgah. Wa nahnu lahuu ‘aabiduun. 139.  Qul ‘atu-haaajjuu-nanaa Fillaahi wa Huwa Rabbunaa wa Rabbukum. Wa lanaaa ‘a-maa-lunaa wa lakum ‘a-maalukum. Wa nahnu lahuu mukh-lisuun.

138.  God’s coloring. And who gives better coloring than God? “And we are devoted to Him.” 139.  Say, “Do you argue with us about God, when He is our Lord and your Lord, and We have our works, and you have your works, and we are sincere to Him?”

SibgatAllaah – {(We take our) color from Allaah }. It aims “the religion of Allaah”.

According to usage, one word “Qabilnaa” (we embraced) is not found at the proper place, however, it is meant that we embraced the religion of God Almighty.

The People of the Scripture (the Children of Israel and the Christians) cause their children to sit down in the colored water and when an individual embraces the religion of Christianity, they sprinkle over him the colored water. That is called “’Ista-baagh” which means ‘Baptism’. As if, the color of Christianity is taken from the water by them. The real color, in fact, grows by Faith and Character.     

Contrary to above, it is commanded that they said: We have taken over the color from God. The Messenger of God (ﷺ) said: Convey the name of God in the ear of every child as soon as he is born. Accordingly, after birth, the Adhan is recited in his right ear and along with it, ‘qad qaama-tis-Salaah’ (twice) i.e. ‘Takbeer’ in the left ear. It is the call for him towards the natural religion. Comparatively, the tradition of causing to sit down in the water is meaningless.

The People of the Scripture are being warned again that their thought and faith is entirely false, base of which is that they say: Blessing and Mercy of God is only for them. As He is your Lord, He is ours too and which acts we do; those are purely for Him. Neither we pass our lives sinfully like you; considering that the good deeds of your pious people would be sufficient for you also and nor do we have any sense of bias or pride.
