Creating a disturbance (L-259)

205. وَإِذَا تَوَلَّىٰ سَعَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُفْسِدَ فِيهَا وَيُهْلِكَ ٱلْحَرْثَ وَٱلنَّسْلَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْفَسَادَ

205.  Wa  ‘izaa  tawallaa  sa-‘aa  fil-‘arzi  li-yufsida  fiihaa  wa  yuh-likal-harsa  wan-nasl. WAllaahu  laa yuhibbul-fasaad.

205.  When he gains power, he strives to spread corruption on earth, destroying properties and lives. God does not like corruption.

Tawallaa – (he turns away), here it has two meanings – to turn away or to beco(ﷺ)me ruler. That is to say; while he goes away leaving the conference of Messenger (ﷺ), and according to the other meaning ‘he becomes ruler’. Some commentators of Holy Qur’an have taken these meanings, that is to say; he becomes either officer of the state or the power is acquired by him anywhere.

Sa-‘aa – (effort, display of power, exertion), this word means ‘to become zealous, to labor very hard, attachment of attempt. Here it aims to attempt severely for establishing mischief and raising badness.   

Fil-‘arzi – (in the country), ‘Arz means ‘the earth’, by bringing this word, usually It is intended to show that the hypocrites do their activities of mischief at a wide scale, they introduce the badness up to very long distance. However, with the use of al (Alif Laam) along with the word ‘Arz, it may be signified towards a particular place, as the township of Madinah, which remained the centre of the hypocrites during the period of God’s Messenger (ﷺ).

‘Al-harsa – (the crops), that is to say; the mischief makers ruin the crops and kindle them. Some commentators have aimed from this word “the women” and some others have included it “to harm the religion”.

‘An-nasl – (the life), in destroying the life, both the lives i.e. the lives of the mankind and the cattle are included in it. Some commentators (Mufassiriin) have taken here the meanings as only the human lives. As a whole, slaughtering and plundering, both are included in the meanings of this word.

In the previous verse, it was described that apparently, he shows sympathy with Islam. But internally, he is enemy of Islam. Then another thing that he tries to assure in his truth by swearing repeatedly of God, witnesses God in every matter. But in fact, he is one of the most rigid of opponents. He tries to wrangle with in every right affair and is enemy of the truth. His efforts are to harm God and His Prophet (ﷺ).

Some more signs have been explained about such people in this verse. Because they ignite the fire of mischief and quarrel in the country, produce disturbance, try to distribute the united nations in different groups, so that they may draw their attention, they burn the crops, slaughter the cattle, commit the fornication, become guilty of the unnatural act, due to which, breed of the human ruins. https://youtu.be/TcJ54HtT0hI
