Don’t Make A Jest Of The Believers

 

Do not deride the Believers (L-266)

زُيِّنَ لِلَّذينَ كَفَرُوا الحَياةُ الدُّنيا وَيَسخَرونَ مِنَ الَّذينَ آمَنوا ۘ وَالَّذينَ اتَّقَوا فَوقَهُم يَومَ القِيامَةِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَرزُقُ مَن يَشاءُ بِغَيرِ حِسابٍ212.

212.  Zuyyina  lillaziina kafarul-hayaatud-dunyaa  wa  yas-kharuuna  minallaziina  ‘aamanuu.  Wallaziinat-taqaw  fawqa-hum  Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  WAllaahu  yarzuqu  many-yashaaa- ‘u  bi-gayri  hisaab.

212.  Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they ridicule those who believe. But the righteous will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. God provides to whomever He wills without measure.

Reason of revelation of this verse is that leaders of Idolaters used to make a jest of Muslims and suppose them contemptible. They used to joke against Bilal, ‘Ammaar, Suhaib and other poor Companions (May God be pleased with them) of the Messenger (ﷺ) and say: These stupid people accepted worldly calamities and difficulties on the thought of the Hereafter (we seek refuge in God), and look at Muhammad (ﷺ) who wants conquest over the powerful Arab leaders and chieftains with assistance of these beggars, needy and poor people, and expects to correct the entire world with the help of these poor people. This verse was revealed on the foundation of this buffoonery test and jest of those people.

They were warned that it was ignorance and immaturity to think like this. They don’t know that these poor and distressed people will be superior and excellent to these leaders on the Day of Judgment. To whom God desires, bestows uncountable livelihood. So they saw after some days that these poor people, against whom the infidels used to make jokes, got the wealth of Banu Qureza and Banu Nuzair. And God bestowed to them reign over two major kingdoms of those times – Iran and Rome, and bestowed to them worldly leadership, wealth and sovereignty.  

It has often been that the rich and leaders, who are deniers of God, are proud of their wealth and think that they will purchase everything of this world, and will conquer every power of the world by their wealth. Due to this pride and arrogance, these people make a jest of the poor, honest and truth-lovers. To them; wealth is the only sign of nobility and the state. To them; superiority of the morality and purity of the character is nothing. But they don’t know that the wealth is a moving shadow, it is a passing shadow, sometimes hither and sometimes thither, and it has no stopping place. The thing on which one hasn’t power and control and which would be temporary and unstable, being proud to this extent; is unprofitable and useless.

The real thing is goodness and abstinence. It is the greatest wealth. On The Day of Judgment, the best reward will be bestowed in its exchange and the entire rich and deniers will be overwhelmed on that Day. They will sink in the ignominy and disgrace, and will repent on their deeds. How much would it had been good if these individuals would have understood that God gives livelihood to every creature? He can give it to the honest people by snatching from them. They shouldn’t make a jest of the poor and needy people. They must incline to correct their own Hereafter.
