Commentary
Tahiyya-tun –
(greeting), explanation of this word has passed in Suratun-Nisaaa’. When
two persons or groups see one another mutually, they say something. At that
time, which word comes out at first, is as though, a gift, greeting. This
should be the best word. For it, among the Muslims, Salaam (Compliment)
is the best word (to send compliments and to return the compliments), which
contains meaning for this world - “Live with good health”, and for dwelling in
the Gardens after completion of accounts reckoning in the Hereafter - their
greeting will be “Peace!”. Origin of the word tahiyya-tun is tah-ye-yatun,
which has been derived from the word Hayyii. Word Hayaat has come
out from the same which means “Life”. Saying one another: Peace! is as though;
announcement of one’s desire that the other should live long peacefully. There
can be no greeting (tahiyya-tun) better than it at the time of meeting
with one another. Such people who have been convinced recently of “Live and let
others live!”, they should learn from “Salaam ‘alaykum” of Islam in the
beginning, which means “Peace with you”. This sound has been echoing in the ear
of mankind with effect from the beginning of Islam (nearly 599 AD).
It is commanded:
the people who believed in Allah Almighty and did always good works described
by Him, they shall be admitted in the Gardens for dwelling. These Gardens will
be verdant and fresh. They will live in the upland, underneath which rivers of
clean and transparent water will be flowing. Their hearts will feel comfort and
eyes will get coldness. This all will be by the permission of Allah Almighty.
Once, if they entered there, then they will never come out. And they will live
there for ever with pleasantness as their minds may desire. Everywhere will be
peace and safety. At the time of meeting, their greeting for one another will
be “Peace! and Peace!”, which will be congratulations and salutations for one
another being fortunate.
