Commentary
Mostly people do not accept straight and true thing. Due to
being involved in the obstructions of the world, their sense cannot become
conscious quickly. Even that understanding of some people loses its sense. It begins
to think crookedly instead of thinking fairly. Refractory people of Makkah
of those days used to pretend for disbelieving in various forms. Often people
used to say for getting rid of, “If this Claimant of Messenger-hood bring; any uncommon
token of his truth; from his Lord, then we shall perceive that he (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is a true Messenger. According to their
sense, their aim from “the uncommon token” was “as it has been mentioned
clearly in Surah Banii ‘Israaa-‘iil”,
for example, to bring out a spring of water from the earth by striking Or to
cause to grow a green garden burdened with fruit Or to let the sky fall etc.
Answer of this question has been given in this verse.
It is commanded: If you draw your attention by giving up false
pretences, then you will find that a clear proof and evidence concerning the
Truth of the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon
him) has come unto you, which is “this Holy Qur’an”, verses of which he
recites for causing to hear you. Do you not behold that summary of all former
Scriptures has been collected in it? There is no such matter, which may be good
for mankind but is not recorded in it. Is this collection of entire good works
and virtues not clear token of his Messenger-hood (grace, glory, blessings and
peace be upon him) that you demand useless portents? There is no need of any
further portent in the presence of such Holy Book.
It appears from this verse that all such mankind’s useful
matters; which did exist in the past, exist presently or will be in future,
have been gathered in Holy Qur’an. Now there is no need of searching
their formulae and principles anywhere else.
