Wa makras-Sayyi’ – (And
plotting of evil), ‘as-sayyi-‘u
is an adjective of makar, that is to say “bad tricks, evil ways”.
With effect from the beginning, the Arabians used to run away
from obedience of the foreigners and were ready to persevere strongly their
independence in their Country. When none of the foreigners attacked upon them, some
reason of which was that their country was apart from other countries; and some
reason was that all necessities of life were not available there in accordance
with the requirement, then the Arabians began to fight one another mutually and
seize others. In process of time, their disputes increased so much that they
created their separate tribes and the overpowering upon one another became
their habit. Every tribe was desirous that it should be more powerful than
others. On top of the same it happened that some of them were prosperous and
some were contented in poverty. By this, their mutual strangeness increased
more than earlier and looting began regularly. No one individual or tribe used
to fall short in seizing own foe. They used to lie in wait for their prey like
wolves and whenever they used to find any chance, they used to miss not this
opportunity for destroying it very badly. This ambition of becoming superior,
practice of tricks and ambush for seizing their opponents bloomed.
When the greatest and the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory,
blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) came to them, they adopted
the same behavior with him also according to their habit; considering that he
too was their rival. And they forgot their covenants, strong oaths and mutual
agreements that – “they would show other nations that they were more obedient than
them and best followers of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah
be upon him) who would come to them”. In addition, their bad habit of seizing
the opponent appeared with more strength. And instead of being obedient and
submissive, they became enemy of their Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and
peace of Allaah be upon him).
