Prophets were not poets

Chapter “YAA-SIIIN” - (YASIN) – 36

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

 (I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَمَا عَلَّمْنَٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ 69  لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ 70  

                                       

69.  And We have not taught him (Muhammad) poetry, nor it is befitting to his dignity. This is naught else than a Reminder and a Lecture (Qur’an) making plain- 70.  To warn whosoever liveth, and that the Word may be fulfilled against the disbelievers.

69.  Wa  maa  ‘allamNaahush-Shi’-ra  wa  maa  yambagii  lah.  ‘In  huwa  ‘illaa  Zikrunw-wa  Qur-‘aanum-Mubiin. 70.  Liyunzira  man kaana  hay-yanw-wa  yahiqqal-qawlu  ‘alal-kaafiriin.

Commentary

It is commanded: These Words; which are being caused to hear you; are neither self-invented and nor imaginary. Self-fabricated and imaginary words are called poetry. We have neither made Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) like a poet, a person who puts into rhyme and nor taught him composing a verse. Composing a verse is not the manner of such people who desire to deliver Our simple and true Message to the mankind. Our Messengers (peace be upon them) do not fabricate anything themselves. They discourse in weighed, measured and idiomatic language, in which there can be no fabrication.

There is nothing except advice and goodwill in that Word which Our Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) causes to hear you. He describes to the people such real and true matters which they have forgotten due to being involved in bustle of the world and by deception of the Devil. It is Holy Qur’an, in which entire matters of mankind’s goodness have been collected at one place and which explains before them formulae of life in clear and simple style. It frightens from bad consequences of sins and evil deeds to those people who think.

That person understands it immediately and finds the Right Path as soon as he listens to this Word who has knowledge and uses common sense. And those do not believe in Allaah Almighty whose hearts have become dead due to bad desires. The Word is fulfilled against them because they go astray even after knowing the Right Path.
