our gods, O Abraham?
63. He said: But this,
their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak.

Commentary
Messenger Abraham (peace be upon him) had known well by his natural
sense that how much the universe is before our eyes, nothing from it is able
that it may be Worshipped. Even in this regard, the idols are not in any number.
However, among the human beings, there are some such glorious entities, who
have great qualities into themselves. But those qualities too do not reach up to
the degree of being a Worshipped of mankind. Worshipped of the mankind should
be Most Superior to all conditions and a Perfect Supplier of the wants of human
being, and That is He, Who created the universe, Who brings up all living
beings and Who looks after everything.
After disclosing by tongue the helplessness of the idols, then Abraham
(peace be upon him) disclosed their helplessness with his hands also by
breaking them into pieces. When the people asked: Why did you do this? He (peace
be upon him) said: Why cannot be the actual matter as that the chief idol would
have slain the little idols being in anger? You should ask from these injured
idols. They will tell you the state clearly.
They had no answer of this discourse of Abraham (peace be upon
him), so they began to think that what should they say and what should they do?
Then they began to say to one another: The actual matter is this truly that by
choosing such empty-handed and silent idols as our worshipped, we have been
doing wrong.
