Think good of your own folk

Chapter “Nuur” – (Light) - 24

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

 (I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

لَّوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُظَنَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا وَقَالُوا۟ هَٰذَآ إِفْكٌ مُّبِينٌ 12  لَّوْلَا جَآءُو عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُمُ ٱلْكَٰذِبُونَ 13  

12.  Why did not the Believers, men and women, when ye heard it, think good of their own folk, and say: it is a manifest untruth? 13a.  Why did they not produce four witnesses?

12.  Law  laaa  ‘iz  sami’-tumuu-hu  zannal-  Mu’-minuuna  wal-Mu’-minaatu  bi-‘anfusihim  khayranw-wa  qaaluu  haazaaa  ‘ifkum-mubiin. 13a.  Law  laa  jaaa-‘uu  ‘alayhi  bi-‘arba-‘ati  shuhadaaa’.

Commentary

The people who embraced Islam and repented of previous wicked deeds, and determined that they would pass a chaste and pure life in future, they should be fearless totally from the acts of their mutual violence against one another. They should have full faith in one another that every person of the society will guard life, wealth and property, honor and chastity of every other member of the community; and will save reputation of Islamic Society from ungraceful brand of sins.

When every member of the society determined it then there is no chance of being the chaste and pure culture sullen due to groundless rumors. It was required that every that individual who heard this slander, should have said unhesitatingly and without delay that it was (God preserve thee from it) entirely false imputation. And it was an illusion of hidden enemies spread by conspiring for spreading restlessness among the Muslims by violence. To spread suspicion mutually by false slander and accusing the good people falsely are devilish works. This Law has been established to hush up the mischief-makers that none should accuse any other of adultery, until he has four reliable and lawful witnesses to prove that he speaks the truth. Without it, if any person says something wrong to vilify any other, then all people should say unanimously that “You are telling a lie entirely. It is a false scandal. None can commit any such work in Islamic Society. Chaste people are at a great distance from it”.
