They were separated (L-3191)

فَضُرِبَ بَيْنَهُم بِسُورٍ لَّهُۥ بَابٌۢ بَاطِنُهُۥ فِيهِ ٱلرَّحْمَةُ وَظَٰهِرُهُۥ مِن قِبَلِهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ 13b  يُنَادُونَهُمْ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَٱرْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْأَمَانِىُّ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ 14

13b.  Fazuriba  baynahum bisuuril-lahuu  baab.  Baatinuhuu  fiihir-Rahmatu  wa  zaahiruhuu  min- qibalihil-'azaab. 14.  Yunaaduunahum  ‘a-lam  nakum-ma-'akum. Qaaluu  balaa  wa  laakinnakum  fatantum  ‘an-fusakum  wa  tarabbastum  wartabtum  wa  garret-kumul-‘amaaniyyu  hattaa  jaaa-'a  ‘Amrullaahi  wa  garrakum-Billaahil-Garuur.

13b.  Then there will separate them a wall wherein is a gate, the inner side whereof contains mercy, while the outer side thereof is toward the doom. 14. They will cry unto them (saying): Were we not with you? They will say: Yea, verily; but you tempted one another, and hesitated, and doubted, and vain desires beguiled you till the ordinance of Allah came to pass; and the deceiver deceived you concerning Allah;

It is commanded: When hypocrites will be requesting to the believers that they should wait and carry them along with themselves, then in the mean time a wall will be placed between them with a door. The believers will be inside the door, where Mercy of Allaah Almighty will be waiting for them. But on the outside of it there will be torment. Then hypocrites will call to the believers, "Were we not with you in the world? Why did you leave us and go away?" The believers will reply, "Yes, you were along with us but verbally only. Your thoughts were different from your apparent. You deceived yourselves by being entangled into the trap of your wishes and awaited misfortune for the believers. And you doubted in Islam, even the death pounced upon you by the Command of Allaah Almighty and you could not repent. Satan deceived you that nothing is the doom of the Doomsday; you must not fear Allaah Almighty but enjoy your life.
