Cruelty of the Jews (L-105)

ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَهِىَ كَٱلْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنَ ٱلْحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمَآءُ ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ 74.

74.  Summa qasat quluubukum-mim-ba’-di  zaalika fahiya kal-hijaarati ‘aw  ‘ashaddu qaswah.  Wa ‘inna    minal-hijaarati  lamaa yatafajjaru  minhul-‘anhaar.  Wa  ‘inna minhaa lamaa yash-shaqqaqu fa-yakhruju minhul-maaa’.  Wa    ‘inna minhaa lamaa yahbitu min khash-yaTillaah. Wa Mallaahu  bi-gaafilin ‘ammaa ta’-maluun.

74.  Then, even after that, your   hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, for hardness. For indeed there are some rocks from which rivers gush, and indeed there are rocks which split asunder so that water flow from them. And indeed there are rocks which fall down for the fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

In the previous verses, God Almighty commanded about some incidents happened in the history of the Children of Israel to consider them lessons, from which we may know that they remained involved in different kinds of evil-deeds and disobedience. Allaah Almighty used to forgive them but they, even then, did not understand. As though, their hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than the rocks, for hardness, because there are some rocks which are useful and advantageous for the creature of the Creator, some rocks are from which rivers flow and springs gush and the people get water for their personal use, for their animals and for their crops. Hence every field of life needs water, there is no conception of life without it and that is the great favor of God Almighty, Who provides us by means of rocks.

And indeed there are some rocks which fall down from the peaks of the mountains as they are falling in prostration due to fear of Allaah Almighty.

The commentators of the religion have made comments that example of the rocks, from which the rivers flow and springs gush, is like the Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon them) in the population of human beings. Due to their springs of favor and kindness, the people (the creature of God) quench their spiritual thirst. Example of the second kind of rocks is like the saints of Allaah Almighty. Many people reap advantage and get blessing from them. Like them, there are Believers and Righteous persons, who, if may not guide and correct others, even then their own faith and deeds remain sound.

Neither the Children of Israel reaped advantage from the teachings of  Prophets (peace be upon them), nor they listened to the advice of the servants of God Almighty, as though, their hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, on which, no speech becomes effective.  And Allaah Almighty is Aware of what the entire individuals do.
