Promises by the Omnipotent

Surah Ra-‘d (The Thunder) - 13

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

40.  Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them, or make thee die (before its happening), thine is but conveyance (of the message). And Ours the reckoning.

41a.  See they not how We visit the land, reducing it of its outlying parts?
40.  Wa  ‘immaa  Nuri-yannaka  ba’-zallazii  Na-‘iduhum  ‘aw  Natawaffa-yannaka  fa-‘inna-maa  ‘alay-kal-  balaagu  wa  ‘alay-nal-hisaab.

41a.  ‘A-wa  lam  ya-raw  ‘Annaa  na’-til-‘arza  nan-qusuhaa  min  ‘atraa-fihaa.

Commentary

Natawaffa-yanna – {We make (thee) die}, origin of this word is tawaffii and its single is wafaat. This word has passed in Surah ‘Aal- ‘Imraan. It means “to finish”. Wafaat means “death, decease, demise”.

Nan-qusu – (We reduce), origin of this word is naqsun. Naqsun means “to reduce, to diminish, to lessen”. From it; there is a word nuqsaan, which means “loss, defect, harm etc.”

Allah Almighty commands in this verse to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): We have promised them that obedient people will be rewarded with good remuneration but those who are disobedient, will be punished properly. If We show them something from which We have promised during Your existence among them or after your death, even then, the reality will not be changed and it will be as it is now. It is fact that it is not duty of any Prophet/Messenger (peace be upon him) that he should fulfill their uncommon demands, but he (peace be upon him) should convey the Message of Allah Almighty. Therefore, the same duty is of You also that You should recite the Message (Word) of God Almighty before them and show them practically by acting upon His Commandments, whether any person admits or denies. It is Our responsibility to fulfill the promises and punish the wicked doers. We shall do when We shall will. Neither You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) should be thoughtful for it and nor they should be careless. This portent is sufficient for thinking that We visit the land, reducing it of its outlying parts for them. Islam has been spreading all around and infidelity has been abating.
