Commentary
It is commanded: Verily the misfortune was so much grievous that
you had lost your senses and you began to assume about Allaah Almighty
various assumptions. All of them were imagining separately. Some people said:
“It is the end now, we did never face such misfortune in the past. Now we shall
not be saved”. Others said: “How can we get victory over such great Army?”
Hearts of most of the people had been broken. Some such people, whose belief
was weak, were terrified and hopeless.
In reality; on one side, the people of the entire Arab were
fully equipped with arms and ammunition, who were ready to attack; but they
were hesitating due to the Ditch, otherwise they would have assaulted and slain
all. On the other side, the Jews who were inhabitants of Madinah, they
had broken their covenant.
Apparently there were no arrangements for settling these
troubles. In fact it was the time of tough trial. Their hearts were shaken.
Hopeless and terrified thoughts had surrounded them from all around. The
Hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease, they began to say openly:
Where are the Promises of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) now? O people! Will you not admit even
now that we were beguiled severely?
