Commentary
Nasta-biqu – (we cross
one with another), this word has been derived from ‘istabaaq, origin of
which is sabaqa. Sabaqa means “going before, taking the lead,
crossing other fellow in race”. ‘Istabaaq means “to compete for looking
–who crosses all others in race?”
There are many such
games, in which every individual desires to lead in competition, for example – jousting,
using sword in competition, racing on foot etc. These all games are manly and
have been remained current during every era. It aims “we began to play a game
in which everyone tries to lead all others”.
When the day light
was over, they (brothers of Joseph –peace be upon him) returned. When they
arrived near their home, began to weep and mourn. Prophet Jacob (peace be upon
him) would have come out being confused by hearing the voice of weeping, and He
(peace be upon him) would have asked: What did happen and where is Joseph? They
began to say: Our father! What can we say? When we went to jungle, we desired
to race one with another, and left Joseph by our things. Meanwhile, we went
far, by chance a wolf came unto the things. When it saw Joseph alone; swallowed
Him. You are already suspicious from us. Although we are true, even then you do
not believe our saying. They were saying these words and showing themselves
weeping, whereas in fact, they were not weeping. If there were no darkness,
their faces would have told that their all acts were only for showing. Even
then, the story was telling itself clearly that it was self-fabricated. How
could a well-acquainted with business person like Jacob believe in their
saying?
