SAYINGS
OF THE MESSENGER OF THE CREATOR (238 to 246& 268 to 276)
(SALLALLAHO-ALAIHE-WA-AALEHI-WASALLAM)
Unity, Mutual Co-operation and Social Work
238. Sayyidina
Nu’maan bin Basheer (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The Believers in their mutual pity,
love and affection are like one body. When an organ is in pain the whole body
has fever and becomes restless. (Bukhari, Muslim, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
239. Sayyidina
Anas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Help your brother whether he is an
oppressor or an oppressed. Someone asked, “Messenger of Allah, I will help the
oppressed surely; but, how may I help the oppressor?” The Prophet (Peace Be upon
Him) said: Stop him from oppressing someone. That in itself is helping him. (Bukhari,
Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
240. Sayyidina
Jabir and Abu Talhah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ha)
If a Muslim deserts another Muslim at
a time when he is being disgraced and humiliated then Allah will leave him helpless
at a time when he is in need of help. But, as for one who helps a Muslim when
he is being disgraced and humiliated, Allah will help him at a time when he is
in need of help. (Abu Dawood, Jama’
al-Fawaa’id)
241. Sayyidina
Abu Darda (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
He who defends the honour of his
brother will have Allah remove the Fire from his face on the day of
Resurrection. (Tirmizi, Jama’
al-Fawaa’id)
242. Sayyidina
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
A Muslim is the brother of another
Muslim. He does not tyrannize him nor does he hand him over to his enemy. As
for him, who looks after the needs of his brother Allah will look after his
needs. If anyone removes an anxiety of a Muslim, Allah will remove an anxiety
from his anxieties on the day of Resurrection. If anyone keeps the secret of a
Muslim then Allah will conceal his faults on the day of Resurrection. (Abu
Dawood, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
243. Sayyidina
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone recompenses an oppressed to
get him his rights, Allah will keep him steadfast on the bridge sirat when many steps would waver.
(Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
244. Sayyidina
Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Each one of you is a mirror for his
brother. Therefore, if anyone finds a stain on it, he should remove that stain.
(Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
245. Sayyidina
Abu Zarr (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Let not anyone of you think little of
any pious deed. If he cannot do anything let him at least meet his brother with
good cheer. When you buy meat or cook something, dilute it and send something
of it to your neighbour. (Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
246. Sayyidina
Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
When anyone invites people to follow guidance
he gets as many rewards as earned by those people who listen to him and follow
his advice without anything being deducted from the reward of those people.
But, when someone prompts others to do evil then he will get the sin of all
those people who have followed his advice while nothing will be lessened from
their sin. (Bukhari, Muslim, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
Social Work
268. Sayyidina
Tameen ad-Daari (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Surely, religion is the name of
goodwill.
The narrator said,” We asked him for
whom?”
He answered: For Allah, for His book,
for His Messenger, for the leaders of the Muslims and for their common people. (Muslim, Abu Dawood, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
269. Sayyidina
Abu Sa’eed Khudri (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone of you sees another doing an
evil then he should stop it with his hand, but if he does not have that
ability, then he should stop the evil with his tongue by mentioning it.
However, if he does not have that ability too then (at least) let him have it
in his heart that it is an evil and this is the weakest form of faith. (Muslim, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
270. Sayyidina
Abu Bakr (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
When people see the tyrant (being
oppressive) and do not seize his hands then it cannot be ruled out that Allah
will let His punishment descend on all of them.
(Abu Dawood, Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
271. Sayyidina
Abu Sa’eed (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
It is also the most supreme jihad that
just words be spoken before a tyrant.
(Abu Dawood, Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
272. Sayyidah
Umm Salmah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ha)
He whose advice is sought is a trustee.
(If he gives an advice which he does not himself consider correct then he is
being mistrustful.) (Tirmizi, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
273. Sayyidina
Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Faith has more than seventy branches.
The most excellent of these is to affirm the kalimah (Laa ilaha illAllah, there is no god but Allah). The least
excellent is to remove something harmful from the road. And, modesty is also a
branch of faith. (Bukhari, Muslim, Mishkat)
274. Sayyidina
Abu Sa’eed (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Avoid sitting on the thoroughfare. If
you must sit then give it its right.
The Companions (Radi-ALLAHO-An-hum)
asked: “O messenger of Allah! What is the right of the thoroughfare?”
The Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) said,
“Keep your gaze down. Remove1 what is harmful. Respond to the greetings. Enjoin piety,
and forbid evil. (In another version, i.e. are told also) Help the oppressed
and guide him who has lost his directions.” (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Jama’
al-Fawaa’id)
1.
The words of the Hadith allow for two
renderings: (1) Remove filth, or (2) Remove what is injurious.
275. Sayyidina
Abu Hurayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If anyone helps someone in hardship
making things easy for him, Allah will make it easy for him in this world and
the next. If anyone keeps the secret of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults
in this world and the next. And, as long as a slave (of Allah) is occupied in
helping his brother, Allah goes on aiding him.(Muslim, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
276. Sayyidina
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Allah has created some of His
creatures in order that they may fulfill the needs of people. When people face
any difficulty they get worried and turn to them. Such people are protected
from the punishment of Allah. (Tabarani, Jama’ al-Fawaa’id)
