15.  And We verily gave
knowledge unto David and Solomon, and they said: Praise be to Allah, Who hath
preferred us above many of His believing slaves!
16.  And Solomon was
David’s heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! we have been taught the language of
birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident

Commentary
Allaah Almighty has kept the individuals of mankind separate from one
another with regard to their formation and strength (physical and mental) on
account of His unlimited knowledge, wisdom and extreme Divine Power. And they
all are clearly separate from one another even in ability too.
Instructions for every individual exist in Holy Qur’an
according to their ability and capacity. There is mention in these verses concerning
two persons –father and son –David and Solomon (peace be upon them).
It is commanded: We had given specific
knowledge to David and Solomon (peace be upon them). David (peace be
upon him) used to understand the mysteries of fossils and minerals, hear God’s praising
by mountain rocks, and make things of iron by breaking and molding it. Solomon (peace
be upon him) used to understand the languages of the birds and animals also,
and know that “this special dignity was bestowed him by the Creator of the Universe”.
He (peace be upon him) used to thank Allaah Almighty unhesitatingly. He (peace
be upon him) used to say to the people: Allaah Almighty has taught us to
understand the languages of the animals and gave us everything in the world. This
is His evident and open kindness and mercy.
