Commentary
Lan-nu’-sira – (we shall prefer not), this word is in
negative tense, origin of which is ‘asr. It means “to prefer anything
above the other, to exalt”.
Pharaoh was very angry due to believing by wizards in Moses
(peace be upon him) and he said: I shall cut off your hands of one side and
your feet of other side, then I shall crucify you on the trunks of palm trees,
and then you shall recognize assuredly that whether my torment is more lasting
and stern or the doom of the Lord of Moses (peace be upon him); in Whom you
have believed.
The wizards had full faith after looking the miracles of the
staff of Moses (peace be upon him) that it could not be a play of magic. Moses
(peace be upon him) and his Lord also (both) were true without any doubt. Pharaoh was at wrong and ignorant. They; being of
one voice; said: We have seen clear proofs. Our Lord is That Who is Lord of Moses
(peace be upon him). In the presence of such clear proofs and Omnipotent Lord,
we cannot obey you (Pharaoh). We are neither ignorant and nor children that we
should be frightened from you. Our decision is final. In this regard we cannot
obey you. Do as you wish and punish us as you desire, we don’t care.
