Hope of Mercy (L-2854)

قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ 53  وَأَنِيبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَسْلِمُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ 54

53.  Qul  yaa-‘Ibaadiyal-laziina  ‘asrafuu  ‘alaaa  ‘anfu-sihim  laa  taqnatuu  mir-RahmaTillaah.  ‘InnAllaaha  yagfiruz-zunuuba  jamii-‘aa.  ‘InnaHuu  Huwal-Gafuurur-Rahiim. 54.  Wa  ‘aniibuuu  ‘ilaa  Rabbikum  wa  ‘aslimuu  laHuu  min-  qabli  ‘any-ya’-tiyakumul-‘Azaabu  summa  laa  tunsaruun.

53. Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves: do not despair of God’s mercy, for God forgives all sins. He is indeed the Forgiver, the Clement.” 54. And turn to your Lord, and submit to Him, before the retribution comes upon you. Then you will not be helped.

Two things – Fear and hope are abundant in the nature of human being. His entire works revolve upon these both things. If any one of the both covers up the other entirely, then the mankind becomes useless or he will not be able to do any useful work. If a man fears everything, he will remain confused. And if he begins to rely on everything, then too he will fail.

Islam teaches: Do not fear anything or anyone except God Almighty and do not have hope from any other than your Lord. Fear certainly from His wrath but do never break your hope from Him.

Mankind was frightened in the previous verses from His wrath and revenge. Now in these verses, it is being taught: Do not despair of the mercy of Allaah. Indeed, He forgives all sins of those sinners who repent of their sins. It is commanded: Do not be hopeless from the Mercy of God Almighty. He forgives every sin when you repent because He is very Merciful and Forgiving. However, you must try to incline toward Him immediately and obey His Commandments. But it all should be done before coming of His doom, otherwise when the doom reached, then you will find no protecting friend.
