47.  Otherwise, if
disaster should afflict them because of that which their own hands have sent
before (them), they might say: Our Lord! Why sendest Thou no messenger unto
us, that we might have followed Thy Revelations and been of the Believers?

came unto them the Truth from Our Presence, they said: Why is he not given

Commentary
Man is a strange creature also. He says that he should do as he
desires. If it is said to him that following own desires is not good, particularly
when contrary to it is correct, then he makes such excuses which he himself had
already rejected. It has been commanded in this verse: If the Messengers (peace
be upon them) were not sent and any disaster would
have fallen on them suddenly due to their wicked deeds, then they would have
said: Our Lord, why did You not send a Messenger for our guidance, so that we
could have obeyed him, followed Your verses and been among the Believers? It is
the reason that We sent Our Prophets (peace be upon them) before time,
so that they may not say so at the time of their punishment.
Now a Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)
has come and he has described to them concerning the true matters, but they do
not believe in him and make excuses that why he has not been given such Miracles;
which were given to Moses (peace be upon him) OR why the Scripture (Qur’an)
has not been given to him all at once as Torah was given to Moses (peace be upon
him)? Why is it being revealed by degrees? Whereas before this; these people
have rejected the Miracles of Moses (peace be upon him) and the Scripture
(Torah), brought by him. Their antipathy is from the Truth. They wish to do
according to their will. They do not think concerning true and false, but reject
all that which is against their desires. And its reason is that; which they
have already refused.
