of Pharaoh (L-2977)

47. But
when he showed them Our signs, they started laughing at them.
48.
Each sign We showed them was more marvelous than its counterpart. And We
afflicted them with the plagues, so that they may repent.
49.
They said, “O sorcerer, pray to your Lord for us, according to His pledge to
you, and then we will be guided.”
50.
But when We lifted the torment from them, they immediately broke their
promise.

Saahir – (Wizard), during
those days, Saahir was considered a great Scholar because the magic was
common. In such situation, they used this word for Moses (Peace be upon him) as
flattery; but even then they did not believe that he was a Messenger.
It
is commanded: Messenger Moses (Peace be upon him) showed them Miracles bestowed
by Us and they began to laugh at them, whereas those Miracles were very strong
and true Signs. And every Token was greater than the other. Then We entangled
them in troubles and afflictions so that they should incline to Us being
fearful. But whenever they were seized by any calamity, every time they used to
meet with Moses (Peace be upon him) and say: O
magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. We promise that
as soon as this disaster will be removed, we shall accept your guidance.
It is commanded: When We used to remove the
affliction from them, at once they used to break their word as they never made
any promise. They were proud of their realm and wealth as it has been described
in the next verses. https://youtu.be/0kupUyJiC6A
