54.
Thus he fooled his people, and they obeyed him. They were wicked people. 55. And
when they provoked Our wrath, We took retribution from them, and We drowned
them all. 56.
Thus We made them a precedent and an example for the others. 57. And
when the son of Mary was cited as an example, your people opposed. 58.
They said, “Are our gods better, or he?” They cited him only for argument. In
fact, they are a quarrelsome people. |
It is commanded: Pharaoh fooled the people of his folk and they began to obey him. In fact they were wrongdoers. After that, when they enraged Us, We punished them and drowned all of them in the River. We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.
After that, it is commanded: When We made mention of Jesus (Peace
be upon him), then they found another evasion. They began to say: Because Jesus
(Peace be upon him) also is adored, so what will happen with him, the same will
happen with our gods. However; our gods are better than him. It is commanded:
They did not present the comparison except for mere argument because they
desired to raise dispute. They are quarrelsome naturally and seek excuses for
ascribing plurality to God Almighty.
