Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying, “O my people, do I not own the
Kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flow beneath me? Do you not see? 52. Am
I not better than this miserable wretch, who can barely express himself? 53.
Why are bracelets of gold not dropped on him, or they angels came with him in
procession?” |
Egypt was very famous during those days. Skilled artisans and great engineers were residing in that Country. Water Canals were dug from The River Nile to the Palace of the King and the gardens were watered by them. Provision and wealth were in abundance. Prosperity and easy circumstances make a man proud.
Pharaoh
used to consider himself greatest. He said in his court: O people! You see that
entire Country of Egypt is in my possession. Canals have been flowing beneath
my palace. Moses (Peace be upon him) is a disregarded and unknown person who
even cannot speak clearly. Should I be his obedient? How can I admit his claim
of Prophet-hood? He says that he is an ambassador of That Who is the Owner and
the Ruler of the entire world. Is it not strange? If so, bracelets of gold
would have been placed upon his hands. Moreover, he would have come in
conjunction with angels for conveying the Message of his God; to Whom he
considers that He is very Glorious and Awe-inspiring.
