21. Or
have We given them a book prior to this one, to which they adhere? 22. But
they say, “We found our parents on a course, and we are guided in their
footsteps.” 23. Likewise, We sent no Warner before you to any town, but the
wealthy among them said, “We found our parents on a course, and we are
following in their footsteps.” |
It was commanded previously: These idolaters do not consider that ascribing plurality to God Almighty is a bad thing. When it is said to them: You are doing wrong, then they reply carelessly: You say that all works are done by the Will of God Almighty. Then it is obvious that our act of associating others with Him is also due to the Will of Allaah. If He willed, He had stopped us from Infidelity.
This is their misunderstanding. Occurrence of any happening is a separate thing and its happening according to one’s will is another matter. Accordingly, their such argument is entirely wrong. Now they must tell: Whether had We sent to them any such Scripture before it, in which they would have been commanded that they should have belief in a plurality of Allaah? Being confused; they say: Stop it! We found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps, rightly guided.
But following the forefathers blindly is not the way of sense. Due to the same reason ancient people had put off the sayings of the Prophets (Peace be upon them) that “we do the same as our fathers did since long. They had established a religion and we followed its instructions.
It is manifest that this answer is only a false excuse, not a suitable reply. It means that they are nonsense.
