Intentional obstinacy (L-2989)

87. And
if you asked them, “Who created them?”, they would say, “God.” Why then do
they deviate? 88. As
for his statement: “My Lord, these are a people who do not believe.” 89. Pardon them, and say, “Peace.” They will come to know. |
It is commanded: These people adore others but when they are asked: Who made you? Then they say immediately without thinking – Allaah. While they believe that they are made by the Creator of everything i.e. God, then why do they bow and incline towards others instead of Him? Why have they gone astray instead of choosing the Right Path?
After that, they have been threatened by swearing. Bear it in mind that in Holy Qur’an, swearing of anything aims that the attention is being drawn particularly to that thing. Here it is intended to remind that the people adopted carelessness and obstinacy so much that Our Messenger (ﷺ) had to say clearly in Our Majesty: I recited Qur’an before them, explained its meanings and showed them acting upon its commandments. In short, I tried my best to guide them towards the Straight Path, but they are so much arrogant that they do not attend to me and run away from Belief.
We have listened to Our Messenger (ﷺ) and certainly We will help him against the refractory people. Now O Messenger (ﷺ): Turn away from them without quarreling and say: “Peace” and be silent! They will be punished very soon. Then their eyes will be opened and they will come to know.
