The condition of the hypocrites (b) (L-3228)

وَلَئِن قُوتِلُوا۟ لَا يَنصُرُونَهُمْ وَلَئِن نَّصَرُوهُمْ لَيُوَلُّنَّ ٱلْأَدْبَٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ 12b  لَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ 13  لَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِى قُرًى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوْ مِن وَرَآءِ جُدُرٍۭ بَأْسُهُم بَيْنَهُمْ شَدِيدٌ 14a

12b.  Wa  la-'in  quutiluu  laa  yansu-ruuna-hum  wa la-'in  nasaruu-hum  la-yuwal-lunnal-‘adbaar.  Summa  laa  yunsaruun. 13.  La-‘antum  ‘ashaddu  rahbatan  fii  suduurihim-minAllaah.  Zaalika  bi-‘annahum  qawmul-laa  yaf-qahuun. 14a.  Laa  yuqaati-luunakum  jamii-'an  ‘illaa  fii  quram-muhas-sanatin  ‘aw  minw-waraaa-'i  judur. Ba’-suhum  baynahum  shadiid.

12b.  and indeed if they are attacked they help them not, and indeed if they had helped them they would have turned and fled, and then they would not have been victorious. 13. You are more awful as a fear in their bosoms than Allah. That is because they are a folk who understand not. 14a. They will not fight against you in a body save in fortified villages or from behind walls. Their adversity among themselves is very great.

It is being commanded concerning the hypocrites: They are liars and deceivers of first class, who promised verbally with the Jews that “if you are expelled from the Country, we will surely go out with you”. But they do never intend to go out along with them and nor shall they ever accompany them. If the Muslims fought the Jews, they would never support the Jews. However if they supported them in war, they would run away from the battle field showing their backs at the time of fight. They themselves will not find help from anywhere. Believers are more fearful within their breasts than Allaah because they are a people who do not understand and cannot guess His Divine Power, otherwise they would not have chosen disbelief and ostentation. Not only they, but no one from the disbelievers can stand before the Muslims in face to face war. However, in populations, hiding themselves in the fortresses or from behind the walls; they can attack suddenly. But their violence among themselves is severe whereas they fear from fighting against the Muslims.
