5. Whatsoever
palm-trees you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah's
leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers. 6. And
that which Allah gave as spoil unto His messenger from them, you urged not
any horse or riding-camel for the sake thereof, but Allah gives His messenger
lordship over whom He will. Allah is Able to do all things. |
When the people of Banu Nazayr sat hidden in the Fort and the Muslims besieged the Forts from all around, the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) permitted to cut the trees and destroy the gardens. Some date-trees were cut on this Command. The disbelievers taunted that the Muslims were forbidden from disturbance. Is cutting of fruit trees not mischief?
At that time this verse was revealed: O Muslims! Their palm trees which you have cut down or left standing on their trunks - it was by permission of Allaah and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient, so that they should come out in anger for fighting and in addition the field of fighting should be cleared to some extent.
After that it is commanded: You did not take
forcible possession of movable and immovable properties, gardens and wealth
after fighting against Banu Nazayer. Therefore, those are bestowed as
spoil by Allaah Almighty to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings
and peace be upon him). He can spend from their
income for the welfare of the public as he desires.
