We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom
the Scripture has been given may have certainty, and that believers may
increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture has been given and
believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and
disbelievers, may say: What means Allah by this similitude? |
‘As-haaban-naar – (the wardens and the keepers of the Fire), here it aims “the angels (peace be upon them)”. Those people are also “‘As-haaban-naar” (the companions of the Fire) who will be punished into the Hell along with others.
It was commanded in the previous verse: Nineteen watchers (angels) are appointed on the Hell.
After hearing this, the disbelievers began to rally and said: We are thousands in number. What harm will nineteen angels do to us? One hero among them said: I alone am sufficient for the seventeen. Our remaining people are sufficient for the remaining two angels.
It has been described to them in this verse: Wardens of the Hell
are angels (peace be upon them). One of them had made upside down of the
township of the folk of Lot (peace be upon him). You all collectively cannot
defeat even only one angel. Enumeration of nineteen angels is only for
examining the disbelievers that whether they believe in it and fear or banter.
The People of the Scripture have already known by means of their Holy Book.
They including the believers will believe in it without wrangling and be
confuted of Holy Qur’an’s truth, and none of them will have any doubt in
their hearts due to unreasonable talks of the disbelievers. However those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the
disbelievers will say: What does Allaah intend by the number of nineteen
as an example? What is trouble in more or less than nineteen in numbers?
It is their trial.
