Chapter TAKWIIR” – (The Over Throwing) - 81

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

 (I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ 1  وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ 2  وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ 3  وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ 4  وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ 5  وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ 6  وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ 7  وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ 8  بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ 9  وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ 10  

1.  ‘Izash-shamsu  kuwwirat.

2.  Wa ‘izan-nujuumun-kadarat.

3.  Wa  ‘izal-jibaalu  suyyirat.

4.  Wa  ‘izal-'ishaaru  'uttilat.

5.  Wa  ‘izal-wuhuushu  hushirat.

6.  Wa  ‘izal-bihaaru  sujjirat.

7.  Wa  ‘izan-nufuusu  zuwwijat.

8.  Wa  ‘izal-maw-'uudatu  su-'ilat.

9.  Bi-‘ayyi  zambin-  qutilat.

10.  Wa  ‘izas-suhufu  nushirat.

1. When the sun is overthrown,

2. And when the stars fall,

3. And when the hills are moved,

4. And when the camels big with young are abandoned,

5. And when the wild beasts are herded together,

6. And when the seas rise,

7. And when souls are reunited,

8. And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked

9. For what sin she was slain,

10. And when the pages are laid open,

Kuwwirat – (is wrapped up), it aims: Spreading rays of the sun will be wrapped up. The meanings of the word Takwiir are also the same, that is to say: the sun will lose its light.

 ‘Ishaarun – (full-term she-camels), this word is plural of ‘ushaarun, which means – pregnant she-camel which is near to give birth, because such she-camels become more valuable.

Wuhuushun – (wild beasts), animals and birds of wild which fear mankind and one another.

 Sujjirat – (rise, are filled with flame),

Maw-'uudatun – (buried alive), this was a bad tradition in Arab that fathers used to bury their living daughters after birth by digging a pit, because they used to consider that the daughters would be given to others after marriage. According to them it was a shame.
