Introduction of “The Cloaked One” (L-3358)
Chapter “MUDDASSIR” – (The Cloaked One) - 74
According to order, this is seventy-fourth Chapter of Holy Qur’an. It was revealed during the beginning days of stay at Makkah. It has two Sections. Before coming of this Chapter, the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) used to recite Holy Qur’an and explain before the members of own family and those Muslims who used to meet him. In this Chapter, it was commanded: Proclaim publicly concerning the Qur’an and convey its Message to all people. It is your duty, whether any person accepts or rejects. Some scholars say that it is the Chapter which was revealed first of all. But in fact; initial verses of Chapter 96 “The Clot” (‘Alaq) were revealed at first. After that the Divine Revelation was stopped for a few days. Then the Chapter under reference was revealed, in which there was guidance for common people, and perhaps after it; the Chapter 73 “The Enshrouded One” (Muzzammil) was revealed, in which there is guidance for mankind’s internal correction. Meanings of the titles of these both Chapters are nearly the same. In both Chapters, the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has been addressed, because at the time of coming of the Divine Revelation, it was his habit usually that he used to keep his body covered with a cloth, sheet or blanket, particularly at the time of worship and sleeping.
In this Chapter, it is commanded: Make your habits as; which must be like the glory of the great reformer. A famous poet of Arab, named Walid bin Mughirah, who had been attracted after listening to the recitation of Holy Qur’an and was near to embrace Islam that meanwhile Abu Jahal had known, came running to him and said: What are you going to do and why do you destroy your entire honor? Are you leaving the religion of your forefathers and going to accept the religion of that person who is a boy before you? He thought carefully and said due to constancy of Abu Jahal: Yes! This Qur’an is a magic spell, which has been coming imitated since long.
In this Chapter, that disbeliever (Walid bin Mughirah) is
being threatened that a very severe Doom is ready for him. Then reality of the
Hell has been manifested that it is a place of severe calamities, in which such
people will enter who either disbelieve in Holy Qur’an or believe but
are careless from its Commands. Moreover, they run from it away as wild asses
run away after hearing the roar of a lion. Do they think that the Message of Allaah
Almighty should come to all of them directly and separately, because they do
not desire to be obedient of others? It is entirely their vain imagination. Allaah
Almighty appointed His Prophets (peace be upon them) from among the ancient
people and sent for their guidance from time to time. In the same way, this
last Prophet, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has been
appointed and sent along with Holy Qur’an. His responsibility is to
spread this Scripture in the entire world and recite its Message to all. Now
this Qur’an is Guidance for the entire human beings. Every individual is
free for accepting or rejecting it. The fact is it that all of us must avoid
wicked deeds due to fear of Allaah Almighty and ask His forgiveness of
own sins.
